First, to briefly explain my condition: I originally had malocclusion, but from 1st to 3rd grade in elementary school, I had compensatory orthodontic treatment, so my bite itself is normal. However, ever since I was young, I kept hearing that only my lower face was a bit lacking, and whenever I talked about appearance with friends, I heard countless times that if I just slightly refined my face shape, I would look really okay.. (That “slight refinement” is the biggest surgery though lol) So since last year, I’ve been going around to different clinics for consultations, and this is my 3rd round of consultations. The 1st and 2nd clinics are also in my previous posts if you look at my post history. At this clinic, they took dental impressions and did a lot of tests. I’ll roughly number things and summarize what the doctor said, the clinic’s characteristics, and the price. For reference, this is ㅇㅇ Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and I’m currently planning to do both two-jaw surgery and facial contouring here.
1. My bite itself is not extremely good, but it does not interfere with daily life.
2. I need about 6 months of presurgical orthodontics. (They said presurgical orthodontics is done in units of 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or 1 year. They said that because my teeth are genuinely naturally strong and healthy, they may not move easily, so it could take a little longer than 6 months.) Also, I am technically a case where surgery-first is possible, but they said that for safer surgery and to minimize errors, it would be better to do at least some presurgical orthodontics.
3. They recommended doing it together with facial contouring. (I brought photos of the face shape I wanted, and they said this..)
4. There are no separate charges for the pain-control injection or hospitalization fee. Everything is included in the surgery fee.
5. Orthodontic cost: 5 million KRW (including wafer), 3 types of facial contouring + two-jaw surgery: 17 million KRW, additional costs such as blood tests, etc.: 300,000 KRW
6. CCTV viewing is available.
That’s about what I remember for now. There were foreign patients at the clinic too, and there were many people, so my consultation started 1 hour later than my reserved time. And in the end, I decided to have surgery at this clinic. The reasons are:
1. The director’s aesthetic goal is similar to mine and very clear. At the clinic where I previously had a consultation, when I looked at the before-and-after photos, honestly.. I wasn’t satisfied. Of course, two-jaw surgery is a treatment-purpose surgery and safety is the top priority, but since my purpose for surgery was my complex about having a protruding lower jaw, I didn’t want to pay a lot of money only to get an unsatisfactory result. For reference, I really want an oval face,,
2. The reviews are good, and first of all, they have many patients.
3. CCTV viewing is available.
4. Orthodontics can be handled at the same clinic. (They have both an orthodontist and an anesthesiology specialist.)
That’s about it for now… I decided to start presurgical orthodontics right away next week. I’m nervousㅠㅠ
