I slept for 2 hours in the evening, so now I can’t sleep at all.. While looking up posts from people who had surgery with a scalp incision.. and also reading posts from people who suffered after surgery because of problems, I thought maybe my review might help even a little for people getting ready for surgery, so I’m posting this..^^ Hmm.. this is something I always told the people who sent me private messages.. If you’re getting ready for surgery.. please really think it through carefully before you do it.. I knew it was a major operation, but since I was told the pain wouldn’t be that bad.. I made my own careful decision and went ahead.. Still, if I had to do it again, I absolutely couldn’t.. so I don’t think this is the kind of surgery people should rush into just because they dream of a small, slim face.. The choice is yours, of course..^^ Right now, my big swelling.. (the swelling that was so severe through day 4 after surgery that I looked puffy like a standing fan lady..) has almost gone down.. I still have a little swelling around my cheeks and lower jaw. The area under the ear and jaw has regained a lot of sensation.. The lower jaw still hasn’t fully recovered sensation yet.. It feels exactly like being numbed at the dentist.. My lower lip also had very little sensation, and it still isn’t fully normal, but it has come back a lot.. And as for the zygoma, the front part has gone in a lot, so I can’t really tell there’s swelling.. There is some swelling from the temples toward the side zygoma.. and the sensation is a bit dull there too.. The doctor said the swelling would start going down from day 5, but even by the afternoon of day 5 there was no improvement, so I felt really frustrated.. But it started to go down little by little from that night.. I expected it to suddenly drop a lot, but that wasn’t the case.. Over the next day or two, the swelling gradually went down.. For reference, I was quite swollen on the day of surgery too.. The hospital I had surgery at is one that says you can be discharged the same day because there’s no bleeding or swelling even on the day of surgery.. Of course, it wasn’t enough bleeding to need a blood drain, so bleeding wasn’t much of an issue.. the swelling was such that my features were still visible, but my cheeks were puffed up and my mouth wouldn’t close properly?.. that kind of swelling. For reference.. I’m also the type who swells up easily.. Anyway, after that, for 3 or 4 days I lived with my eyes closed.. (From someone else’s review, I saw they’d been told their eyes would close because of swelling, but there were also people who said that didn’t happen..) The swelling gradually went down.. and on day 9 after surgery I went to get the stitches removed. At home, my older sister and I were taking off the bandages.. when you remove the bandages, there’s gauze and cotton inside.. The gauze was stuck to my head and wouldn’t come off, so I went in to wash it like that.. Some people said they had no bleeding at all.. but I guess I had some blood come out.. Anyway, the scab, hair, and gauze had stuck together and didn’t seem like they wanted to come off.. I soaked it in water for about 30 minutes and barely managed to peel it off, then showered.. It said on the medicine bag not to use shampoo, so I washed without shampoo at all, but it was still completely greasy.. I had no choice but to go to the hospital looking a mess.ㅋㅋ When they removed the staples from the scalp-incision area, the top of my head didn’t hurt, but it did hurt above the ears. Tears just streamed down. I was so tense that I was sweating all over my face and body.. Then when they removed the stitches inside my mouth, the molar area didn’t hurt.. but because I had the jaw cut as far forward as possible.. they had cut right up to just before the nerve area, so when they removed the front stitches I screamed. People who haven’t felt that pain would not understand. It was the absolute worst!!! But this would probably not hurt for people who had a standard angle-jaw cut.. I had it cut all the way to the front.. right up to the nerve area.. so this may have been my special case.. I left the hospital with a few stitches still remaining.. I was told I’d get the rest removed on the day I came back with the X-ray two days later.. After the stitch removal, my sister and I went for a drive to change our mood, and within a few hours the swelling went down again.. I think from this day on, the swelling started subsiding faster. Especially my lower lip, which had been so swollen it stuck out, went down a lot.. Then two days later I went back to the hospital with the X-ray.. When taking the X-ray, there’s a position where you have to tilt your neck back as far as possible.. I had a hard time because I couldn’t tilt my neck back then.. My neck is a little uncomfortable. I wonder if it’s because it’s supporting the heavy head caused by the swelling.. Anyway, the muscles on both sides of my neck feel a little knotted. It’s not to the point of interfering.. Anyway, at the hospital they looked at the X-ray and the surgery photos.. The doctor felt my jaw and asked whether it hurt.. The day before stitch removal, the right side of my jaw, which hadn’t hurt, suddenly started stabbing and aching so badly that I couldn’t bear it and cried.. I had called the doctor because I was worried it might be a blood clot, so they checked that area for me. But the jaw only hurt that one day and then stopped.. Then they removed the remaining stitches a second time.. that day, the scalp staples didn’t hurt when they were taken out, but one stitch remained in the front-left part of my mouth, and when they took that out I cried again. I screamed even louder than last time..ㅠ.ㅠ I really thought I was going to die from the pain.. Honestly, I regretted having surgery.. both times with the stitches in that area..ㅋㅋ And since then, up to now, my condition is.. the swelling has gone down a lot, so my sister says if she tells people I was swollen from having a wisdom tooth removed, they probably wouldn’t really notice.. From what I can see, the outer corners of my eyes are still pulled a little sideways because of the swelling, so I haven’t returned to my pre-surgery appearance yet.. I already mentioned the swelling above.. Sometimes the front of my jaw feels a sharp tingle. It’s just a one-second zing and then it’s over, so it’s bearable.. My scalp also tingles here and there sometimes.. and the incision wound itches.. As for sensation.. it feels a bit unlike my own flesh, but I think most of it has come back.. I still haven’t been chewing food yet. I’ve only been drinking, or swallowing porridge as-is.. I still can’t brush my teeth yet either.. I’m holding on with Hexamedin..ㅠ.ㅠ I think I might be able to do it, but my lower lip still doesn’t open very well, so I’m planning to try sometime next week.. Oh, right.. One or two of my right molars sometimes hurt. I don’t know why that is...ㅡㅡ;; Does anyone else have symptoms like this? And I’m also worried that the two sides of my jaw seem to have different slopes.. On the X-ray they look similar.. and even looking at the photos of the cut bone, both sides were cut similarly.. But the left side was cut slimly from under the ear like a slightly inverted V-shaped jaw, so even with swelling now there’s a visible front-view effect.. The right side, though, seems to have a more noticeable angle under the ear from the side.. It looks like it was cut slimly starting a little below the ear.. So from the front, it doesn’t look much different from before surgery.. Even when I touch the bone.. I’m not sure if it’s bone or healing tissue, but the hard thing I feel is definitely different on each side.. Which made me think.. with angle-jaw surgery, don’t they cut each side separately? Then, since surgeons are only human, I thought it might be possible to cut the two sides differently.. Right now this is my biggest worry. I’m trying to think maybe the swelling just goes down differently on each side.. and that this might be one of those cases... Has anyone had the same thing as me??
