This is a fresh review from 2 weeks after getting orbital decompression surgery I waited 1 year and had orbital decompression surgery at a university hospital To explain orbital decompression surgery very simply, it’s a surgery where they break the bones surrounding the orbit to create space, then move the protruding eyeball into that widened space I happened to learn about this surgery 2 years ago, had consultations at plastic surgery clinics too, and looked into it a lot here and there But as I explained above, this really isn’t a simple surgery So even if it took some time, I wanted to secure as much safety as possible, so I waited almost 1 year at a university hospital and had the surgery there Since it was definitely a university hospital, I had a looooot of tests before surgery: blood test, urine test, ECG, CT, allergies, etc. There were so many Having so many tests before surgery actually made me feel more reassured. Even thinking about it now, I think I made the right decision The side effects of orbital decompression surgery are double vision and strabismus, but thankfully I think mine went well with no side effects at all My vision is still 1.0 in both eyes, and my eye size is the same too. But as my eyes went in, I ended up getting hollower eye sockets (I think it probably happened as my protruding eyes moved inward. Other people besides me also got hollower eye sockets as their eyes moved in) On the day of surgery, the double vision was really severe, but the professor said it would be okay by the next day, and it really did get better! (Before surgery, while looking at my CT results, the professor told me that in my case I likely wouldn’t have side effects) Honestly, since this isn’t a small surgery, I can’t absolutely strongly recommend it But if you’re very stressed about your eyes protruding, I think it’s worth considering Before surgery, my protrusion measurements were 19 and 20 When I was discharged, the protrusion measurements came out as 15 and 16 At plastic surgery clinics, they say a measurement of 15 or higher is protrusion At university hospitals, they say a measurement of 17 or higher is protrusion! The university hospital professor said that the more you move the eyes inward, the higher the chance of side effects becomes So he said moving them inward by a moderate amount is best I hope this helps everyone even a little
