<Before surgery><After surgery>My front view was fairly okay, but the problem was always my side profile. When I looked in the mirror or at photos, my mouth looked protruded and my chin looked like an underbite, so it bothered me a lot. Actually, several years ago I had four teeth extracted and had already completed orthodontic treatment, but that impression still remained, which made me even more upset. So whenever I sat next to other people, I often remember always worrying that my side profile would be visible. I would unnecessarily be careful when turning my head or laughing, and I even developed a habit of unconsciously covering my face with my hand. Actually, I did not go for a consultation because I intended to have double-jaw surgery. I went because my side profile and underbite when smiling had always bothered me so much, and I wanted to know why. Even if there was a problem and I needed surgery, double-jaw surgery is such a major surgery that I do not think I ever imagined I would get it. But once I actually had the consultation, I was told that my case qualified for double-jaw surgery, and that if I had double-jaw surgery, my complexes about my underbite side profile and protruding mouth could be improved. However, it is a major surgery, and I remembered seeing news about accidents related to double-jaw surgery in the past, so I think I hesitated. But the consultant told me that at Y Oral Clinic, the director operates on only one person per day, and that the guardian can watch the operating room CCTV during the surgery, so I felt I could have surgery safely at this hospital. I did not have consultations at other hospitals and decided right away to have surgery at Y Oral Clinic. 6/30 Double-jaw surgery, 2 types of contouring (square jaw + chin surgery) surgery day The pain after surgery is the worst on the day of surgery. First of all, because they inserted a breathing tube during general anesthesia, my throat was injured and hurt quite a lot, and I had a very hard time because of nausea from the general anesthesia gas. They say some people do not have nausea, but even normally, when I get gastroenteritis or become very sick, I tend to vomit, so I think mine was especially severe. Also, I do not think I felt much facial pain, maybe because I was too exhausted from vomiting to notice it, or maybe because they gave me painkillers. I vomited several times, and each time, even though it must have been unpleasant, the nurse cleaned it up as if it was nothing, so I felt very sorry and grateful. The director also came in midway to check my condition and told me that today would be the hardest point, and if I endured it well, I would be much more comfortable tomorrow, so I was able to hang in there. 7/1 Second day Just as the director said, the next day was definitely much more manageable. The nasal hose and urinary catheter were removed, so the discomfort clearly decreased, and the nausea almost disappeared. Compared with the first day, my condition was good enough that I could go to the bathroom by myself. They also taught me how to wear the wafer, so from the second day, I started wearing the wafer too. For meals, they gave me two packs of New Care, but I was not very hungry and did not really feel like eating, so I barely managed to drink one and a half packs. I poured the New Care into a sauce bottle I had brought from Daiso and drank it that way. On the night of the second day, they also told me what I needed to know before discharge and prepared the discharge supplies for me. The hardest time was when I slept. My nose was blocked and my throat still hurt so much that I could not fall into a deep sleep. Also, bloody nasal discharge kept coming out in between, so I had to wipe it frequently. 7/2 Third day The third day was discharge day, so there were prescribed medicines I had to take, and I could choose between powder medicine and tablets. I was scared that if I took powder medicine, the smell of the medicine would make me vomit again, so I chose tablets. I took them, but because they were tablets and it had not been long since surgery, swallowing was a little difficult. When sleeping, my nose was still blocked and my throat hurt, so I could not sleep deeply and I think I mostly dozed off while leaning on the sofa. 7/3 Fourth day This was the day I was the most swollen. It was almost like I looked like a dog that had been stung by a bee...? My face was swollen, of course, but because the incisions were made inside my mouth, the inside of my mouth hurt and was swollen. So I applied cold compresses often. Normally, you need to take walks too for the swelling to go down well, but because it was extremely hot, I could not do that and instead just walked a little inside the house. And when sleeping, my nose was still blocked and my throat hurt, so I could not sleep properly. 7/4 Fifth day On the fifth day, it seemed like the swelling had gone down slightly compared with the day before, but I was still very puffy. Bruising had also appeared, and it became darker in more yellow and green tones. I took a photo of my side profile, and I was so happy because I could not see the underbite anymore I was still eating liquids, and because of that, I lost about 5 kg. 7/5 Sixth day I still had major swelling and the bruising still remained dark. But my condition improved, so I took my first shower that day. Washing after such a long time felt so, so refreshing and good. But after showering, dizziness suddenly came over me. After sitting down and resting, I quickly felt okay. 4 weeks These days, as I am already entering week 4, my condition has almost recovered. Now I feel like I have returned to daily life enough that I can even wear light makeup when going out. Of course, makeup that involves patting firmly like before still feels burdensome, but if I apply it gently and carefully, it goes on without much difficulty. The hospital also said it is okay if I am careful, so I am wearing makeup with peace of mind. These days, whenever I have a moment, I find myself looking in the mirror. More than anything, what I am most satisfied with is my side profile now that the underbite is gone. In the past, if someone was beside me, I would feel unnecessarily self-conscious and lower my head, but now that discomfort is gone. Since my side profile looks more refined, I feel like my overall impression has become softer too, and I personally feel really satisfied. Overall, a lot of the swelling has gone down. However, in the morning, it still feels slightly swollen, and there is still swelling about the level of the day after eating ramen. It has not completely gone down yet, so whenever I look in the mirror, I think, “It will be even prettier once it goes down more!” and I am waiting for the final line to appear as soon as possible. Overall, I am satisfied with the recovery progress, and these days I feel excited every day as I watch my face gradually change.
