I had chin advancement on Constitution Day. Honestly, rather than pain, the discomfort is really intense. Still, I only had chin advancement with a mini V-line, so the day after surgery I could rinse my nose and blow my nose hard, but people who had cheekbone reduction absolutely must not blow their nose. The reason is that the nasal cavity and the incised cheekbone are connected, so if you blow your nose, air gets into the cheekbone area and it swells up................ It was a somewhat funny-sad.. reason.
But for me, chin advancement is, in a way, probably discomfort like 1 procedure or 1.5 procedures(?), and even this is quite uncomfortable.
1. Swelling It really keeps swelling until days 3–4. So they tell you to wear the compression band diligently to prevent more swelling, but I found it so uncomfortable that I barely wore it from the evening after surgery. Still, today is day 5 and the swelling has gone down a lot.
2. Mouth not opening Similarly, until day 3 my mouth didn’t open well, so I couldn’t really eat anything, and even when eating yogurt I had to eat while looking in the mirror. It feels like I’m going to keep drooling or spilling things.
3. Pain at the incision site below the mouth It’s okay if I take medicine, but if I forget and the interval gets a bit long, I feel pain. Also, when I eat, some food does get stuck around the stitches, but it’s fine because I gargle with Hexamedine morning and evening, rinse with water every 2 hours, and drink water often.
&&& Useful tip Everyone has a Waterpik oral irrigator at home, right? If you set it to a weak level and use it carefully, it’s almost enough that you don’t need to brush. Because solid pieces are hard to eat anyway, and until day 3 you’ll probably only eat liquid foods, so there isn’t much to brush. The hospital gave me a baby toothbrush and a tongue cleaner, and it was my first time using a tongue cleaner, but it was better than I expected.
