I was born with slight lagophthalmos, so I had severe dry eye and hadn’t been getting LASIK. But at some point wearing contact lenses became so hard, and an acquaintance who had SMILE LASIK recommended it, so I got referred and had SMILE LASIK in February. The doctor was kind, and the surgery ended really quickly, so I was satisfied. They said that even if it gets a little scary during surgery because you can’t see in front of you, it’s important to avoid moving your eyeballs as much as possible and look straight ahead. They said that’s good for the surgical outcome too. My astigmatism was also pretty severe, so honestly I was half-doubtful even while getting it. But from the day of surgery, both my astigmatism and myopia were corrected right away, and it felt like a whole new world. As for the dry eye I was worried about, I don’t think there’s a big difference compared with before surgery. Maybe my left eye got slightly drier? I mentioned it when I went for the postoperative follow-up, and they said it would gradually get better. But the dryness hasn’t really improved hehe... Still, this is because I was already dry to begin with and I have a job where I look at the computer a lot, so I’m going to keep managing it by using artificial tears often and generously. Other than that, now that about 6 months have passed, it’s so comfortable and I can see so well that I wonder how I ever wore glasses before or kept contact lenses in all day. I’m satisfied. I regret not doing it sooner.
