The doctor seemed a bit like a pseudo-religious type. It felt like, "Believe in me, and then light shall descend upon you." He said the surgical method is confidential and would not tell me, and he talked a lot about how directors from other hospitals keep coming, how someone comes and steals information, how it is a surgery he developed over a decade ago and these days everyone copies it. Since the surgery is being done on my face, I need to know how it is done, so I did not trust the way he basically said, "I'll just make you pretty, trust only me and lie down," without me knowing anything. I agreed with his point that, from a physiognomic perspective, the midface needs to be elevated to look pretty, and I visited after reading his blog posts, but he did not say even a word about how the surgery would proceed, even briefly. He only said that if he explains it, someone will copy it, and that even if he explained it, I would not understand, so it was frustrating. Also, when I said I was considering double-jaw surgery, he told me not to do it, but even when I asked why and what area seemed likely to be a problem, he did not explain at all. Later he said that he does not operate on patients who keep asking questions or who he does not like, because they seem like they would bother him afterward too, so I could not even ask questions and had no choice but to listen. Even if I asked questions, he sometimes did not answer. I only asked about 5 or 6 questions, but I guess even that was too many. The doctor has very firm personal opinions and says, "This and that must be done. Do not ask questions. You just need to trust me." But I am the type who trusts only when I can logically understand it myself, so it was difficult. I have pretty strong opinions of my own. Even if other people try to stop me, if I want something, I think it is right to go in that direction, and I also take responsibility for the result. But if my opinion is completely ignored and we go in the direction that the director thinks is pretty and right, then later, if the surgery goes wrong and I see a problem, would he listen to me saying something went wrong after surgery, when he does not listen to me now? A doctor with strong personal opinions means that if it looks right to him, that is the end of it. My opinion is more important to me than the doctor's opinion. After all, I am the one who has to live with this face. The consultant said the same kind of things too, like someone keeps stealing information, the director is excellent, and patients somehow hear about him and all come looking for him. But there, the patients' before-and-after photos did not even have mosaics, and I do not know if it is okay to show them so freely without permission. At other hospitals, they only showed neatly organized PPT materials of a few patients whose consent had been obtained in advance, but here it seemed like they just opened a patient folder, looked through several people, and showed a few who turned out well... I do not think selectively picking and showing cases like that is very helpful for understanding a hospital's surgical reviews. The more before-and-after photos you examine, the better. They need to match your own aesthetic sense. Also, how the director or consultant responds when you are dissatisfied after surgery is extremely important. But I carefully read the reviews here in this community... Yes, well, that's how it is.
