The content below is about an experience I personally went through as a patient, and I am writing this in the hope that it will help those considering surgery make an objective judgment. After the surgery, Director Yoo Kyung-han showed behavior in front of me suggesting he was trying to call an acquaintance of his who is also a plastic surgery specialist at another clinic. Even though I, the patient, clearly stated that I did not want him to do so, he disregarded my refusal, told the manager to bring his phone, and tried to obtain my information through a phone call with another medical professional in front of me. I considered this an attempt that goes against medical ethics and personal information protection principles, and as a patient I felt extremely uncomfortable and anxious. I question whether it is legitimate to attempt to share information with a third-party medical professional without the patient’s consent. Another point I would like to mention concerns the surgical consent form. After the surgery, following an argument with Director Yoo Kyung-han, I received the surgical consent form. When I checked it, it contained wording stating that I had heard from the doctor before surgery about a change in the surgical method. However, contrary to this surgical consent form, I was never given any explanation about a change in surgical method by Director Yoo Kyung-han or the manager at any point before, during, or after the surgery. Also, before I received the surgical consent form, Director Yoo Kyung-han claimed that these comparison photos, including photos of my eyes, showed the same restoration surgical method. As can be seen in the comparison photos, including photos of my eyes after surgery, there are clear differences in surgical method, such as the suture location, incision line, and the way the flap was pulled upward. Despite this, he clearly insisted it was “the same method,” but after I received the surgical consent form, he changed his words and said it was “a different method.” Also, before the surgery, the manager said, “Director Yoo Kyung-han only uses one method,” and Director Yoo Kyung-han also said before the surgery that he would use one specific method. Even after the surgery and before I received the surgical consent form, he said, “I only operate using one method, this is all I know. It is the same method.” However, as described above, differences in the medial epicanthoplasty restoration technique can be seen in the photos, and after I received the surgical consent form, he said it was a different method. The surgical consent form also contains the following provisions: 1. A clause allowing a change of operating surgeon 2. A clause allowing a change in surgical method 3. A clause allowing a change in anesthesia method, such as from local anesthesia to sedation anesthesia 4. A clause stating that the copyright of the photos belongs to the attending doctor 5. Typos, such as “이동의서거” 6. At the time of writing the surgical consent form before surgery, it states that the patient is confirming content about surgical stages that would occur after signing the consent form, such as anesthesia and conscious sedation. I am curious whether it is standard for these kinds of clauses to be included. The manager and Director Yoo Kyung-han said they have been using these clauses, along with the typos, as they are.
