I had so many concerns even before double-jaw surgery, but what ultimately made me decide was the malocclusion that had been uncomfortable since I was young. When I smiled, all my gums showed, and because my jaws didn’t meet, I was always keeping my mouth open, which was so stressful. Double-jaw surgery was scary, but I decided I should definitely try it before getting older and took the plunge. I think choosing an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic instead of a plastic surgery clinic was a really good decision. Facial bones are not simply a matter of appearance; they are all connected to nerves, teeth, and functional aspects, so I felt I needed a place where I could receive accurate care all at once and trust them. Director Shin Hee-jin at Iyu Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery also felt very trustworthy, so I went into surgery without major worries. The first week after surgery was really chaoticㅠㅠ The anesthesia hadn’t fully worn off, so my memory was hazy, nasal congestion was severe so breathing was very difficult, and my mouth was extremely dry, so each day felt like I was just enduring it. Especially because I had a fever and even diarrhea, it really wore me down emotionally too. Even so, as each day passed, I could feel my body recovering little by little, and those were days when I became grateful even for small changesㅎㅎ Now sensation in my face is gradually returning, and a lot of the swelling has gone down! Of course, my cheeks are still a bit puffy thoughㅋㅋ The wafer is still uncomfortable, but I’ve gotten fairly used to putting on the elastics now~ Sometimes I feel impatient, but I trust that my body is working hard to recover and I’m waiting. The day I was able to eat strawberries was truly moving, and these days I can eat some soft foods little by little besides porridge, so I feel like I can live! There is still a little pain and discomfort left, but compared with the days when I slept with my mouth open like before or struggled because of malocclusion, now is much better. It was a surgery I hesitated over at first because I was so scared, but looking back now, I think it was a good decision. I hope this helps even a little for people in a situation like mine who are considering surgery.
