5 years ago, I had double eyelid surgery and epicanthoplasty at a local clinic The reason I did it locally instead of necessarily going to Seoul was 1. It was the clinic my friend went to, and it looked pretty 2. My parents said they would pay for it, but told me to do it somewhere nearby When I was young, I didn’t think much, barely consulted around, and just went ahead with the surgery without thinking about the line I wanted or the surgical method So I simply followed the doctor’s recommendation and proceeded with a semi-out line, partial incision, and epicanthoplasty. Maybe because it was a semi-out line, it took 2 years for the final swelling to go down (That doesn’t mean it looked really strange before then; I liked the glamorous look and went around fine. Now my preferred look has changed toward something more natural. Looking at it now, I think it looked very obviously like I had double eyelid surgery until the 1-year mark) Now, in my 5th year, I like the line the most!! I must have deleted all my pre-op photos because I can’t find them My eyes were horizontally long, upturned, and slightly far apart~ <Things I’m satisfied with> 1. No incision line at all when I close my eyes 2. No sausage-like look at all (I think there was a little until the 1-year mark) 3. The line isn’t excessive and looks just pretty when I wear makeup 4. They were originally only long horizontally, but they also got bigger vertically <Things I’m dissatisfied with> 1. I really regret the epicanthoplasty I feel like everyone thinks too lightly of epicanthoplasty when getting double eyelid surgery, but it changes your impression a lot. It really changes a lot. Unless you have very severe small, clam-like eyes, I’m against it. If I could go back, I wouldn’t do epicanthoplasty. There were two reasons I was recommended epicanthoplasty at the time. First, the pretty proportion is when one eye-width fits between the eyes, and mine were slightly farther apart than that. Second, they said doing epicanthoplasty would create the angle needed to make a semi-out line come out prettily. Now, the current me thinks matching the golden ratio absolutely!! does not mean my face will become prettier. First of all, my lacrimal caruncle was already slightly visible before, but now it’s much more visible, so sometimes I think it looks gross. To explain in detail, on days when I’m in good condition and wear full makeup, it’s okay. But when I’m tired, it feels like I can’t put strength into my eyes + my pupils subtly drift outward... Do you understand?? In that state, because the exposed lacrimal caruncle area is large, when I look in the mirror on tired days, I sometimes feel like I look exotropic. And this gets emphasized even more in photos. The doctor said he would open only a very tiny amount, and that the direction of opening would not be forward but downward, so it would be an epicanthoplasty that just changed the eye shape. (It was a long time ago, so I don’t remember for sure whether he said it exactly like this. The gist was that he would open it only a very little.) In reality, even to my eyes, the amount opened isn’t much! But the lacrimal caruncle reflects more light than the white of the eye, so it really shows. I didn’t see anyone considering this before surgery. Even under ordinary fluorescent lighting, a very strong highlight forms on the lacrimal caruncle area. Because this shows especially clearly in photos, I feel it gives the impression that the epicanthoplasty is more excessive than when seen in person. Most of all, my dry eye syndrome got worse. Eye discharge also shows way too easily ㅜㅜ As my dry eye syndrome got worse, my lacrimal caruncle often gets swollen and red. It often itches. The left side has no ㄷ-shape, and the right side has a slight ㄷ-shape, but it’s at a level that can be covered with makeup. My original eye shape before surgery was also asymmetrical, so I don’t have much dissatisfaction with that part. But sometimes, when I look really closely, only one epicanthoplasty area looks subtly bumpy, and other times it looks like there’s no problem. But this is something I didn’t notice until about year 3. Since I started noticing it relatively recently, as I get older, I feel my eye shape is changing and the epicanthoplasty shape is also subtly changing with it. I think other people wouldn’t notice; it’s about the level of change only I can feel. Based on the black part of the eye, I think it’s pretty when there is less white in front and more white behind, but now, because of the epicanthoplasty, I feel that proportion is disappointing. No matter how much I searched for epicanthoplasty restoration reviews, I couldn’t find cases restored as prettily as I imagined. So I’m just going to live like this. If many restoration cases build up later and the technique advances more, I think I’ll do it then. 2. The consultant was unfriendly. I don’t even know whether she still works there, and I have a lot to say, but I won’t bother writing it... The doctor was kind! <Not dissatisfaction, but things I hadn’t thought about before surgery> 1. I found out after surgery that non-absorbable sutures were used Does double eyelid surgery originally always leave non-absorbable sutures in the eyes?? Honestly, it was my fault for not asking properly, but I was surprised when I first found out. I’m living well without side effects, but everyone, please know the surgical method well in advance and proceed wisely. 2. From the beginning until now, I’ve felt like something is pulling from inside my eyes (inward along the double eyelid line). It doesn’t hurt or feel uncomfortable at all; I just feel it~. Is it like this for everyone who had double eyelid surgery?? I feel it more when it’s swollen. <Conclusion> I’m very satisfied, but if I could go back, I either wouldn’t do epicanthoplasty or would open much less.
