My eyes are monolids themselves, with multiple creases, and I lived like this for 30 years. I wanted my eyes to look a bit bigger, but I suddenly didn’t want to lose my identity, so I didn’t get double eyelid surgery or ptosis correction and only got canthoplasty on all sides. There really are almost no reviews like this, so I’m posting in case it helps. Actually, even before surgery, I knew it would be hard to see a dramatic effect with canthoplasty alone, but I didn’t want anything extremely flashy anyway, and I was worried my impression would change too much, so I requested the epicanthoplasty quite conservatively. 1. Lower canthoplasty After the lower canthoplasty, I thought it looked too overcorrected, so I think I worried a lot for about 3 weeks. But now, at 40 days, it seems to have all settled upward and become natural. There is still a slight angle, but I’m satisfied because my eyes look bigger. At first, I also ended up smiling like a dog meme, and I was really worried until 3 weeks, but maybe because the stitches loosened and the lower canthoplasty settled upward, that awful smiling expression disappeared completely. Instead, I feel like my under-eye aegyo-sal has gotten a bit thicker than before? It might still be because there is some residual swelling haha 2. Lateral canthoplasty In the middle, I did warm compresses, and the conjunctival edema lasted way too long. About 3 weeks? And I already had pretty severe dry eyes because I had LASIK, but after the canthoplasty it really did get bad. I just put in a ton of artificial tears, and now it has improved a lot, but I think I’ll need to keep managing it for a few months. After LASIK, I managed dryness for about a year too, so I don’t think it was that shocking. People seem most scared of lateral canthoplasty healing into a ㄷ shape, but honestly I didn’t even know that side effect existed and just got it done... After actually doing it, I had time to look it up, and it was scary. But thankfully it hasn’t healed into a ㄷ shape so far. They say the opening from lateral canthoplasty is more visible from the side, and I do feel that my eyes look expanded when I look in the mirror from the side rather than from the front. 3. Epicanthoplasty I think the doctor wanted to open it more, but I think I talked too conservatively. It seems like it only ended up almost improving the Mongolian fold... I regret this part a little; I should have opened it more. ㅜㅜ My Mongolian fold was originally worse on the right side, the side with the mole near the outer corner, and my eyes were already uneven. When I looked it up, they said the more severe the Mongolian fold is, the more likely epicanthoplasty is to scar because of skin tension. In reality, the scar tissue on the right is quite firm now too. The left eye opened a tiny bit, really only to the extent that I would know..? Is it placebo... I can’t really remember my old face anymore. I’m satisfied because the Mongolian fold seems to have disappeared completely. The scar still seems to be healing. The clinic said they give scar tissue injections, steroid injections, at one-month intervals. After getting one, the firm tissue definitely softened. I also bought scar tissue ointment and am applying it diligently. 4. Upper canthoplasty My right eye had more of the inner front covered by the eyelid. This is really something only I would know, lol, but before, even when I looked up at the ceiling the same way, on the right side my pupil was covered by the eyelid, so my field of vision was blocked. But now, when I look at the ceiling, my field of vision has expanded more. I wondered what effect upper canthoplasty even had, but it does seem to have opened very subtly. 5. Conclusion I think with monolids, you need to do full canthoplasty knowing that it won’t be extremely dramatic. Canthoplasty is originally more expensive than double eyelid surgery, so I don’t think it’s a very cost-effective surgery. I also did it at a somewhat expensive placeㅠ Still, for monolid people who don’t want double eyelid surgery, this is the only path...ㅋㅋㅋㅋ I’m disappointed that the right Mongolian fold still hasn’t been fully resolved because of scar tissue and that I opened the inner corner too little, but I still think my eyes got bigger, so I’m about 80% satisfied. And if you watch YouTube, monolid canthoplasty has really, really, really many cases where the line turns out terribly... so doctors don’t really recommend it eitherㅠㅠ So I hope you look into it carefully before doing it!! 6. Photos I didn’t particularly plan to post a review... so since I just picked the before photos from my photo album, some of them may have slight retouching. Instead, for the after-surgery photos, I put effort into makeup, but the photos only have skin retouching, no contouring or makeup retouching, and I did not retouch the eyes, nose bridge, or face shape. I wanted to bring photos that are as similar as possible, but I don’t have many...ㅠㅠ My eyes are protruding eyes, and since they are monolids, photos taken from above tend to make my eyes look smaller, while photos taken from below tend to make my eyes look bigger, so please keep that in mind too haha
