My first surgery was around 2011, I think.. My nose wasn’t low, but my hump nose stressed me out so much that despite my family, friends, and boyfriend trying to stop me, I pushed ahead with surgery. I chose a large hospital that everyone would know just by hearing its name. The cost was cheaper than other places. I think I paid around 2.4 million won to shave down the hump and raise the bridge with silicone.
After the first surgery, my nose became longer and much higher. I wasn’t completely happy with the shape, but the real problem slowly appeared. It was a silicone foreign-body reaction. My nose didn’t hurt, but the shape gradually started changing strangely. I felt so wronged, wondering if something this rare was happening only to me. I had surgery because I hated the hump, but it became even more bumpy than before.. When staff members would say I’d look pretty if I got my nose done, I was burning up inside, but I’d just pretend it was an unoperated hump nose and move on.
Then I went back to the hospital where I had originally had the surgery. Quite a lot of people were in the waiting room for consultations or surgery. When I said I was someone who had surgery there and had developed this side effect, they immediately shut me in a consultation room, and the director who had operated on me came in and closed the door. “If you want, we’ll remove the silicone. We can’t do revision surgery, and if you want to report us, go ahead. We work with a major law firm(?), so even if it goes to court, it will be extremely hard for an individual to win, and you and your family will suffer major financial and psychological damage.” They talked like that, and I honestly felt like I was going to cry.. It would cost 1 million won to have the silicone removed elsewhere, but I never wanted to entrust my nose to that hospital again..
I had a consultation at a nearby hospital famous for revision surgery, and after worrying over the high price, I decided to have surgery. I think it cost 1 million won for removal, plus osteotomy, autologous dermis, nostril reduction, and a paranasal augmentation procedure, for a total of about 6 to 7 million won. Thinking about it now, I was really greedy. I was swayed by the consultant’s way of talking..ㅋ I think that was how badly I wanted it to be my last surgery. I had also gone through a lot emotionally. The removal surgery and reconstruction surgery were done one month apart.
Silicone removal surgery.. Personally, this surgery was the hardest and felt like a nightmare. I kept feeling like they were scraping it out. On top of that, I could feel blood continuously going down my throat... After sedation, they did local anesthesia and woke me up midway. I don’t know whether the anesthesia hadn’t fully worked or what, but that feeling is still vivid to me... It felt extremely awful ㅜ After the removal surgery, the shape was better than before, so I must have wondered a hundred more times whether I really needed to feel this again and go through revision surgery. Still, I didn’t like the slightly blunt nasal bridge after the hump had been shaved down or the nostrils that looked pinched, so I ended up getting back on the operating table as planned.
Writing this on mobile makes my hands hurt, and only one photo uploads, so I’ll write Part 2 next time. What I want to say is that side effects from rhinoplasty can happen to me too.. I never imagined that my body wouldn’t accept silicone, such a common material. To put it bluntly, unless you feel like “I’ll die from my complex if I really don’t get rhinoplasty,” I want to discourage rhinoplasty.. Still, if someone has already made up their mind to do it, they’ll do it somehow without listening to others (I was like that too..), but please think about it at least one more time. It seems like a surgery that isn’t easy to finish in one go ㅎ ㅎ Then, next time...
