I used to always just look before surgery, but now I'm leaving a review.
I'm the type who usually finds this kind of thing bothersome, and it takes quite a bit of time,
and I was worried what if people around me saw this post and recognized me,
but I'm so satisfied with this surgery that I ended up writing this.
Cutting to the chase, I'll post my review! (It's long)
[Condition of my eyes before surgery]
I had surgery by partial incision 8 years ago, but recently one double eyelid came undone,
so I started looking into revision surgery again.
[When looking for consultation clinics]
I looked for clinics for consultations after deciding on a few things.
1. A clinic run by a board-certified plastic surgeon
2. Excluding clinics on plastic surgery blacklists
3. Excluding places with excessive advertising (subway, internet, etc.)
4. A place not too far away
You can check whether it is a board-certified plastic surgeon's clinic by going to http://www.ksaps.or.kr/ and searching there.
It turned out the clinic where I had my previous surgery wasn't run by a specialist;; (It was still okay, though..)
Plastic surgery blacklists come up if you google them.
For places that have many customers through ads rather than word of mouth, I was suspicious of their skill, so I excluded them completely.
Even after surgery, you have to go to the clinic for disinfection, to have stitches removed,
and if any problems come up, you may have to go again, so I chose somewhere not too far.
Somewhere I could get to within 1 hour from home.
[Before and after consultations]
So I went for consultations at four places in total.
One place wasn't a specialist, but two of my friends had great results there, so I went thinking I should at least get a consultation,
and I chose the other three based on reviews and how close they were to home.
Among them, at one clinic I consulted with the manager and they recommended full incision,
at another, I consulted with the doctor and they recommended buried-suture method,
and at the last one, I consulted with the doctor and they recommended full incision.
First of all, even though one double eyelid had come undone, none of the places recommended doing only one side.
There is a high chance the eyes would become uneven, and if only one side is done, the other side might come undone later,
and the cost wasn't very different.. For various reasons, since I was doing it anyway, I did both sides.
The reasons I chose the clinic where I had surgery were:
First, what they aimed for matched me the best.
Rather than simply wanting bigger eyes, I wanted double eyelids that suited me because my facial features are not very defined.
But the doctor here said it would be possible to make them a little bigger while keeping them natural.
Second, it was affordable.
The other three places all charged about 300,000-400,000 won extra for revision surgery,
but this place said my revision surgery wasn't particularly difficult and offered to do it at the first-surgery price.
Actually, even as the initial surgery fee, it was the most expensive of the four places.
The other places were about 1.1-1.2 million won as a revision surgery fee, but this place was 1.4 million won as a first-surgery fee.
Because plastic surgery can't be undone once it's done, I thought it was better to do it properly the first time even if it costs a little more,
so as long as it wasn't too expensive, I was planning to do it here, and when the doctor said he would charge me the first-surgery price,
I leaned toward it even more.
Third, of course haha, it was professional.
One of the places where I consulted with the doctor had recommended the buried-suture method,
but at the place where I had surgery, they said that because my eyes have a lot of flesh, full incision would be better than buried sutures,
and they explained even the things other places hadn't explained in detail, so I somehow trusted them more.
In the end, everything the doctor explained before surgery turned out to be right~
(I don't have ptosis, but I had something called eyebrow ptosis? In the past, when I opened my eyes wide, my eyebrows went up, but now that doesn't happen at all.
Anyway, because of that, now not only my eyes but also the shape of my forehead has become prettier.)
And this place has just one doctor, and he does both consultations and surgeries himself, so it took a long time even to schedule a consultation.
Fourth, it was honest.
Before the consultations, I looked up the websites of all four clinics.
The information on the website of the clinic where I had surgery all felt honest and trustworthy.
They don't use brokers to post on blogs or cafes, they don't do any advertising,
and they don't do things like tax evasion through cash discount events; they issue cash receipts for everything.
The prices are all posted on the website too.
From the posts on the website and during the consultation, I could see the doctor worked with pride.
The fact that he worked honestly with that kind of pride made me trust him even more.
I've gone on for a long time, but anyway, for all these reasons, I liked it so much that I chose this clinic. haha
I'm still very satisfied now after surgery too!
The clinic isn't large. It's also located in an area where you'd wonder, "There is a plastic surgery clinic here?" but the size or location of a clinic doesn't determine the doctor's ability~ I didn't really care about those things. Rather, the clinic that recommended the buried-suture method, which didn't suit me, had nice interiors, was large, had many doctors, and was in a busy area of Bucheon with many clinics. And this clinic seems to be famous for doing thin lines well, but I don't think they always make them thin no matter what. In my case, I wanted something natural that suited my face, and because my facial features are not very defined, I wanted a thin in-line crease. But instead, the doctor said it might be okay to make it a little bigger. I thought the doctor had seen more before-and-after cases than me and would know better than I did, so I decided to trust him. So I said that as long as it looked natural, I didn't mind if the line was made bigger, and asked him to do what he thought best. I think it was good that I followed what the doctor said. I don't think he always makes lines thin~ It seems like he designs them to suit each person. They say most Koreans don't really suit an out-line or a large crease. Maybe that's why he got that reputation...?
The cost, considering it's in Incheon, is not that cheap in my opinion.
These days there are many affordable places even in Gangnam or Apgujeong.
But there must be a reason why cheap places are cheap, right..?
If a clinic has many patients in a high-volume, low-margin way, I think the quality may drop accordingly, or anyway there must be some reason.
For plastic surgery, because revision surgery is difficult, I think it's important to do it properly the first time. If surgery goes wrong and you need revision surgery, it costs twice as much money and time, and above all, the psychological stress would be no joke. It's the face I'll live with for the rest of my life, so I think a successful surgery is more important than a low price. (Of course, being cheap doesn't mean they lack skill, and being expensive doesn't always mean they're good haha)
For the cost, I think it's good to go to consultations at several places, decide on a reasonable range you think is appropriate, and find a skilled clinic. Even for the same surgery, depending on each person's eyes, some surgeries are difficult and some are easy, and the cost seems to vary accordingly. My maximum was 1.4-1.5 million won, and it was good that the cost at this clinic happened to fit that too.
So even though it was a little expensive, I chose to do it properly the first time, and I'm very satisfied.
My first surgery also turned out naturally well, and before the revision surgery I had been very satisfied.
But with this revision surgery, I corrected things that couldn't be corrected besides the double eyelids during the first surgery,
and it could be made bigger while still looking natural, but during the first surgery it was only natural-looking.
There are many differences in various ways between a non-specialist and a specialist plastic surgeon, so please make sure to look into it well.
I do feel a bit regretful, thinking it would have been nice if I had known these things when I first had surgery.
