I went through a lot emotionally because of the removal. In a way, I had even decided to take a leave of absence from school because of my nose surgery... After a lot of worrying, I found this community, read many reviews, gained strength from them, and decided to have the material removed. When I look at the removal forum, it seems like many people are struggling and hurting because of removal, and I know that feeling well too, so as someone who had removal first, I’m leaving a review.
First, I had my original surgery 1 year and 1 month ago. What made me decide on removal was the stiff, unnatural shape of my nose and the reactions around me, where anyone could tell I’d had nose surgery and people would whisper about it. I was under so much stress because of that... I studied abroad last year, and since it was a country that wasn’t very accepting of cosmetic surgery, a lot of people whispered after seeing my nose. During my time abroad, I wore a mask almost the entire time and cried so much. Later on, I felt like I might even develop social anxiety. After coming back to Korea, I decided to have revision rhinoplasty. Since my nose was too long and I didn’t like how my columella protruded, I went to the hospital where I originally had surgery, and the director recommended lowering the septal cartilage. He said that if it were completely removed, the nose would collapse, turn up, and become a total disaster. I already didn’t like that director, so I went for consultations at about 6 other hospitals. Except for 2 places, all of them said I absolutely should not remove it from my nose. I think I really suffered inside a lot at that time. Everyone said they couldn’t guarantee what would happen to my nose if I removed it, that it would turn up, collapse... They only said depressing things. So even if I gave up on completely removing it as I had originally planned and instead lowered it to refine the shape, would I have to live with a stiff nose for the rest of my life...? And if I didn’t remove it, it would still obviously look like I’d had nose surgery, so people around me would definitely whisper again.
One place was a revision-surgery specialty hospital. I had only heard depressing things, so I went without much expectation or thought, but unexpectedly, the director was confident and said that rather than collapsing, my nose could return to my old nose, and he could also make some corrections. So I booked the surgery right away. Even when I was lying on the operating table, regret kept flooding in: why did I ever touch my nose? Thinking that I had to go through this hardship twice... For now, based on the day-8 result, I’m extremely satisfied. On day 3, I took off the tape, and it looked somewhat upturned and I really didn’t like it. Suddenly, I completely regretted removing it. I had posted on day 3, and I wrote it in such a depressed state. Today I went to the hospital, had the tape removed, consulted with the director, came home, and am leaving this review. The more I keep looking in the mirror, the more I like my nasal tip. I think it’s probably because my previous nose was too pointy and I disliked it so much...
Anyway, my conclusion is... For people who like the nasal tip shape but just dislike the stiffness, I recommend not removing it. The nose shape does change. If you liked your shape, you’ll really regret removing it. I’m saying this from experience... For me too, seeing my nose a little lower makes me feel at ease, but the higher nose did look a bit more refined, so I do feel a little greedy for that... If you are thinking of the result in terms of shape, don’t remove it. For people like me who went through enormous stress from those around them and whose shape still looked very strange despite having had surgery, I strongly recommend removal. Actually, the removed shape seems to suit my nasal bridge better. For reference, on my nasal bridge, I only had the hump osteotomized and did not have silicone inserted.
For now, I hope people in this community who, like my old self, come here every day looking for reviews can find even a little comfort from my review. If you’re considering removal, just take it all out decisively like I did. There may be people who regret it, but for now, I’m satisfied. I think living with a natural-looking result is much better than just being pretty. There are also many people worried about contracture or upturning, but I haven’t developed contracture yet. According to the doctor, unless someone had inflammation or originally had an upturned nose, the nose won’t turn up. You can think of my current nose height as being somewhere between my old nose and my post-surgery nose...? Maybe about 80% of my old nose and 20% of my post-surgery nose... But they said it looks higher because there’s still swelling, and it will get lower with more time. For reference, I had the revision surgery in Busan. The price was 1 million won.
Anyway, to those thinking about revision rhinoplasty, please don’t get too depressed. I think this is just a very tiny part of life. Before surgery, I was suffering so much I felt like I might die, but now I’m trying to live without thinking about my nose. I hope everyone stays strong!!
