<before surgery><before surgery><before surgery><2 months><4 months><4 months><5 months>Hello I had double jaw surgery + two contouring procedures (square jaw, chin) from Dr. Lee Seok-jae at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
I wanted this surgery, but it was a major operation and I couldn’t even imagine it Then this time my youngest aunt said she’d pay for it, so she carefully looked into hospitals first. What my aunt and I liked most was that the doctor had a long career, so you can’t dismiss him, but he only operates on one patient a day, and you can even watch the CCTV in real time!! That was it I looked into just one hospital, booked a consultation right away, and after talking with the director, I made a surgery reservation. Even as the surgery date got closer, I wasn’t nervous at all or anything. Until right before going into surgery, my whole family was worried and full of concern, but my aunt and I kept saying it would be fine, since all the reviews for this hospital were good and we trusted the doctor himself!! Since I was scheduled to stay for 2 nights and 3 days, I packed an iPad charger, mirror, swelling tea, two small Daiso sauce containers, socks, clothes, a hat, a mask, etc. Also a pack of protein drink to have at home (Neucare savory flavor), and I bought swelling tea too
-Surgery day Before surgery, I met the doctor once more and was told there was some paperwork to sign, so I signed it, got everything ready, went into the operating room, and before the anesthesia I thanked the staff and asked them to take good care of me. When I opened my eyes, I was in the hospital room On the day of surgery it wasn’t extremely painful(?) but there were a lot of uncomfortable things I couldn’t lie down, I had to sit up, and even though I had a neck pillow, my neck and butt hurt. The hospital had that cushion(?) so I used it, but it hurt so much I used another one tooㅋㅋㅋ They also had a humidifier, so breathing wasn’t too hard, but the humidifier had to keep being refilled with water, and once the flow got interrupted, phlegm got stuck in my throat.. That’s when the discomfort really started. The dangling feeling in my throat was so uncomfortable And they said I couldn’t sleep until 8 p.m., so I had to fight sleep to get through that too. They said I could sleep after 8 and drink water too. Drinking water wasn’t hard, but I wanted the phlegm to just go down, and it wouldn’t go down either.. On that day, I couldn’t really do phone stuff or watch videos, so I couldn’t manage it. My head hurt too, so I just kept my eyes closed, then opened them again. Even when I slept, I could only sleep for about 30 minutes at most before waking up. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I asked the nurse, and she said I had to drink a lot of water and swallow it down, so from 5 a.m. I drank an enormous amount of water. It was so annoying when it was hanging there, half-swallowedㅋㅋㅋㅋ They said there was nothing to be doneㅠㅠ That was the hardest part
-The next day after surgery A little after 7, the nurse came and removed the urinary catheter and the nasal hose(?), then I met the doctor, had the blood drain removed, and was taught how to put in the wafer. Wearing the wafer made breathing a little difficult and uncomfortableㅠ They also did swelling laser for about 20 minutes. It felt warm and nice They also gave me a protein drink (Neucare), I drank water, and they said moving around was good, so I moved around and did the traction band too They also brought an ice pack ~ It was more comfortable and better than the day before
After the blood drain was removed in the morning
-Surgery day 3, discharge day I slept a little more than the day before, they kept the humidifier on, my condition improved, and I didn’t feel dizzy. Honestly, by the time it was close to discharge, I was getting better~ I got swelling laser too, prepared for discharge, got my medicine prescribed at the pharmacy, and on the way to the subway I kept running to the bathroom. Blood was just pouring out of my noseㅋㅋㅋㅋ so it was hard.. I live in the countryside, so all the way to the terminal I stuffed tissue into my nose and into my mask so saliva wouldn’t drip, and everything was just a mess up and down
-Surgery day 4 to 7 (week 1) At home, it was a bit comfortable but also uncomfortable. I drank Neucare, drank swelling tea, took the prescribed medicine, gargled, walked for about an hour(?) around 3 km, and if I felt like it I slowly walked up to 6 km too, and went to the mart to buy groceries~ Since I’m a mom, it was hard to talk with the kids, so that was a bit uncomfortable, but day by day it became manageable The swelling hit its peak and I thought my face would burst open. I did traction and compresses often, maybe about 8 times Breathing was easy, taking medicine was easy, and there wasn’t anything too uncomfortable Speaking was hard, so I wrote things down or used KakaoTalk to talk, which was kind of funny. I kept applying lip balm too Before the stitches were removed, I went in for one checkup, got disinfected, and had the swelling laser done The swelling on both sides is uneven, right..? They said that can’t be helped. Anyway, I believe it’ll gradually go down with time!!
-Surgery day 8 to 14 (2 weeks) The swelling gradually went down, the bruising on both cheeks disappeared, and when eating I’d take out the wafer, drink Neucare, put it back in, and gargle until the stitches were removed Brushing my teeth after a week felt so refreshing. However, I couldn’t use an adult toothbrush and had to use a toothbrush for 5-year-olds, but I was just happy that there was at least that. Whenever I went out anywhere, I carried a mask and tissues just in case. Since drinking water was awkward, I also tried Pocari, Lotte, Powerade, and Gatorade, but Pocari seems the best. It’s plain and when I drank other things I got hungry again quickly and felt dizzy, but when I drank Pocari I didn’t get that. I really recommend it!! For swelling tea I’m drinking Bineosu; the reviews are good and they said it’s really good for people who had cosmetic surgery, so I bought it and have been drinking it. It tastes good and is tasty too. I’m also recommending this. I’m almost done with the Neucare too, and after 10 days I got tired of it, though if they gave it to me again I’d still eat it well. But I also blended one banana with protein chocolate powder and Almond Breeze in a mixer and drank that. Having banana did make the hunger less intense. Finally, on the day I got the stitches removed, I weighed myself and had lost 6 kgㅠㅠ I’ve dropped to 47 kg, so I’m worried.. As far as I can tell, my sensation has mostly returned, though not completely, but my jaw still has a long way to go... Some people said stitch removal hurts a lot and some said it doesn’t hurt, but for me it hurt so much I broke out in a cold sweatㅋㅋㅋㅋ Especially the area around the philtrum hurt sooooo much... I almost cried, really After the stitches were removed I felt so refreshed, and I was happy that I could finally eat something. That day, when I got home, I immediately cut white bread into small pieces and ate it with sweet red bean porridge, the kind without the red beans
3-4 months Now the recovery is about halfway done, so my face shape has gotten smaller and my jaw doesn’t hurt anymore, which is comfortable. Of course, since I’m in orthodontic treatment, there are still some uncomfortable parts Looking back now, aside from the suffering at the beginning, the recovery process went pretty smoothly and comfortably If I had to say how satisfied I am now, it’s beyond 100%, more like 2000%ㅋㅋㅋ People around me also say my impression has changed a lot, that I look better, my face looks smaller, and that I look younger..ㅋ Hearing that made me a little embarrassed. My husband even said it feels like I remarried and that he’s jealousㅋㅎㅎㅎ There aren’t any major inconveniences in daily life. Right after surgery and before the stitches were removed, the first two weeks were the main tough part, and after that it feels comfortable. Wearing the wafer was a little uncomfortable too, but it was manageable, so that was fine For up to a month I couldn’t sleep lying flat. Because I was worried about the swelling, I did warm compresses for one or two months. I was told it makes a difference whether you do it or not, so I kept doing it. Orthodontics is inconvenient, but still I’m glad because I look prettier than before surgery. But I still can’t chew anything, and I can’t bite into food either, so that’s the most inconvenient part. I’m waiting for that day onlyㅎ_ㅎ
