I’m a man and I’ve had ptosis for a long time. It’s been a few years since my first ptosis correction, and I remember sitting alone, going online and narrowing down a list of clinics.
Then I went to the first place on that list, and because there were so many Chinese patients and the atmosphere felt unfamiliar, everyone was sitting with their heads down using their phones, or Chinese people were chatting among themselves. In that atmosphere, I went for a consultation, and the coordinator said there were currently observers from China visiting the hospital, so if I chose the date they were telling me now, they’d give me a discount...
I ended up agreeing, put down the deposit, regretted it immensely, thought about cancelling, but went ahead with the surgery anyway, and fortunately the result was good.
I think I gained a little trust in the doctor after that.
Later on, I went back for a follow-up and counseling about concerns, got recommended to do canthoplasty, and had upper, lower, and outer canthoplasty done.
I regretted it a lot at the time... First of all, if you get lower canthoplasty too, daily life will be a bit hard. Because there are long incision stitches under the eye like Frankenstein. Since it was summer, I went around wearing sunglasses.
Also, if you’re a man and you tend to have a fuller face, it’s better to think carefully when they recommend canthoplasty too. A woman can hide eye shape with makeup, but if your face is puffy and only the eyes are long, it looks extremely artificial. For the first month, I seriously thought about reconstructing it.
But as time passed, it turned out having done it was the right choice. The artificial look faded over time, and only the fact that the eyes are bigger remained. If I don’t say anything, people can’t really tell, and even the ophthalmologist only noticed after putting a magnifying lens right up to my eyes. I don’t really regret it now. The only thing is that the outer corner of my left eye keeps feeling tight, and if it doesn’t improve after six months, I’m thinking of going in. Or I might go as soon as I finish writing this, now that I think of it.
