Since elementary school, I had severe myopia and astigmatism (-4.5), and without glasses I lived my whole life feeling like I was drunk, unable to focus, like I wasn’t myself. Glasses were uncomfortable and didn’t look good, so I started wearing colored contact lenses, and as I wore them for longer periods, my eyes became so dry, painful, and stuffy. Then I saw that my younger sibling had surgery and said it was so convenient afterward, so after thinking and thinking, as soon as I made up my mind I went to the hospital for a consultation. It was honestly a careless thought, but I figured good is good, so after the same-day consultation I went ahead and had surgery right away. When it was actually time for surgery I was a bit nervous, but for a few seconds the world was blurry, then yellowish, then refreshing, and then it was over. I came out feeling kind of stunned, and I wondered if maybe I had worried way too much. Right after the surgery I felt fine, so I just took the packed subway home, but on the way my eyes gradually started stinging. I got home with tears and a runny nose streaming down, and I do kind of regret that lol After one day I was fine. The next day I went straight to the hospital for an exam and had the protective lenses removed, and my vision was around 0.9? Since it wasn’t 1.0 I was disappointed, but not wearing glasses is already something. They said it would get a little better over time, so I just did as instructed, used the eye drops properly and artificial tears properly, and by the 2-week checkup it came out as 1.0. After that, when I visited again a month later, one eye was 1.0 and the other was maybe 1.2, and I have to visit again after 3 months, so I’m curious what it will be then. I’m not really sure about side effects, but for about 2 weeks after surgery I had dry eye syndrome, so I received laser treatment about twice. Maybe because my eyes were originally bad, I don’t know whether I’m used to halos/glare or whether I don’t have them. If there’s nothing uncomfortable, doesn’t that mean I don’t have them? If someone asked whether I’d go back in time and do it again, I would absolutely do it again. I never knew life without glasses could be this happy.
