As you can tell from the pre-op photos, my nose was pretty unattractive. The nasal bridge was not smooth because of the hump, and I had a crooked nose as well as a bulbous nose. Some friends around me laughed and said, “Why would a man get plastic surgery?” so I had a lot of concerns, but once I made up my mind, I thought I should just go for it, so I looked into it and went for consultations. From what I found, most women seemed to get a straight-with-slight-curve line, while men usually had surgery for a straight line. I also liked the straight line much more. It looked masculine. So I looked for places with many male rhinoplasty reviews and many cases where the nose came out in a long, straight line. I also had very severe rhinitis, so I wanted a place that could do functional rhinoplasty too. One of those places was with Director Yoon Seok-ho at a clinic. When I said my rhinitis was severe, he looked at my CT and told me I also had a deviated septum. After hearing the director’s explanation, I realized my nose was much more difficult than I had thought. I had severe rhinitis and a deviated septum, plus a crooked nose, bulbous nose, and wide nostril wings, so my nose was a complete mess. The director said my septal cartilage was in poor condition and could not be used, so he recommended donated rib cartilage. So I thought about it a lot. From what I had researched, autologous costal cartilage is a stronger material than donated rib cartilage, so if rib cartilage was going to be used anyway, I thought it would be better to use autologous costal cartilage instead. When I told the director exactly what I thought, he said autologous costal cartilage would also be fully possible, and he explained in detail that there were these and those pros and cons and asked whether I would be okay with them. I also liked that he did not overdo it or add unnecessary things, so I decided to have surgery there. Honestly, their straight-nose reviews, which were what I wanted, were also the ones I liked the most. For the functional rhinoplasty insurance reimbursement, the consultant carefully prepared all the documents, so I received it without any issues^^ For about two days after surgery, it was really hard because I had to breathe through my mouth due to the cotton packing, but by around day 3, I had gotten somewhat used to it, and now most of the major swelling seems to have gone down. It feels like only the swelling at the nasal tip is left. Just having my nose changed into one clean straight line seems to have made my previously plain impression look more defined. I also had nostril wing reduction, and contrary to what I was worried about, the scars were not noticeable, and my nostril wings naturally became smaller. Even the friends who used to laugh at me shut their mouths when they saw me. I’m relieved that many people said it turned out well. It is still a period where I need a bit more care, but I hope the swelling continues to go down well and everything settles nicely like this.
