While researching online, I made consultation appointments at three places that seemed okay and went to them (to start with the conclusion, I only received consultations at two places). The main purpose of this in-person research wasn’t really to choose a hospital where I would actually have surgery, but more to gain experience and help with my online research. My ideal look is extremely natural, where I only want the double eyelid to show on about 1/3 of the eye. ㅇㅂ Plastic Surgery Clinic (Director ㅇㅈㅁ) -I thought they would say they needed to call my parents because I’m a minor, but there was nothing like that. I also said I forgot to bring my ID (youth ID card), but there was no issue. -I arrived on time and there was no wait (based on a weekday morning). I saw a few foreigners too. The staff members’ faces looked a bit unnatural. -When I entered the consultation room, I first told the consultant my concerns about my eyes, what I wanted, and the line I wanted (it was my first consultation, so I thought this kind of thing was something I was supposed to tell the director). -The director came in and first explained eyelids and double eyelids. From there, it naturally led into a discussion about the condition of my eyes. -I think he created a double-eyelid line for me about 5-6 times (I liked the second one the best). -He said my eyes are not the type where the double eyelid would come out large (he didn’t just say, “It’s definitely possible!” but explained the limitations). -He said that since the line I want is low, and considering that if I make a low incision now and later want revision surgery by incision to make it bigger, I would end up with two incision scars, he recommended a non-incisional method. -I’ve lived my whole life thinking I had a lot of eyelid skin, so I was really surprised when he said I actually don’t have that much. He said I may want to reduce this eyelid thickness, but once a double eyelid is created, the skin becoming a bit puffy is unavoidable, so it’s not possible. (Personally, I had been curious about why the upper eyelid area can look a little puffy after getting double eyelids, so I liked being able to learn that.) He said some people ask whether fat removal would solve it, but he explained why it wouldn’t and said that even with fat removal, it would not become thinner. -When I asked if I could see before-and-after photos of cases like mine, he said he could show them, but because everyone’s features are different, there isn’t much meaning in looking at them. Still, he did show me a few. -For anesthesia, he said they briefly use sedation when administering local anesthesia, and the surgery itself is done under local anesthesia. 1-year aftercare/warranty. -After the director consultation, I had a brief consultation with the consultant. She explained the price, what to do after surgery, the swelling reduction process, anesthesia, etc. -Since suture removal is not needed, there is a follow-up visit at 3 weeks to 1 month after surgery to check the progress. They said the surgery takes 30-40 minutes. -It seems there isn’t any special postoperative care (probably because it’s non-incisional?). Overall: The consultant-director-consultant consultations took about 20 minutes total. They explained my questions in detail. I liked the line he made for me. I didn’t really like the results from online research, so I didn’t expect much, but the consultation was better than I expected. ㄴㄴ Plastic Surgery Clinic (Director ㄱㄱㅈ) -Like ㅇㅂ, no parent phone call, no ID check. -It was definitely larger in scale and had more of a factory-style feel. -I arrived a bit earlier than my appointment time, but they proceeded right away without any wait. -During the consultant consultation, I talked about my concerns and desired line. She asked if I knew about ptosis correction and had me close and open my eyes to see whether I needed ptosis correction (she said I probably didn’t need it). Then she recommended lower canthoplasty and lateral canthoplasty, and naturally added lower canthoplasty and lateral canthoplasty to my considerations (??) -From what the consultant said, it seemed like the director had surgery scheduled immediately after my consultation. -The director came in and analyzed my eyes (I said my concern was that my eyes looked sleepy, but he said they weren’t sleepy eyes; rather, it felt like the iris looked covered, and that creating even a slight double eyelid would make them look clearer). -He created a line about 3-4 times. He would make the line and say, “Look,” but didn’t give me time to look in the mirror; he just held the mirror while making the line, so I couldn’t properly see the line he made. -Like ㅇㅂ, he said that if I wanted a natural look, he recommended the non-incisional method. I asked if it would be okay to do non-incisional since I felt like I had a lot of eyelid skin, and he said it didn’t matter. When I asked if non-incisional double eyelids don’t come undone easily, he said I don’t have much eyelid fat and I have good eye-opening strength, so I’m the type whose non-incisional double eyelids would not come undone easily (then he explained incisional and non-incisional methods). -He said that since I’m going for a natural result, the upper eyelid becoming puffy from getting double eyelids would not make a big difference. -For anesthesia, sedation is used when administering local anesthesia, and the surgery is done under local anesthesia. 1-year aftercare/warranty. -When I asked about side effects, he mentioned the line coming out differently on each side (as expected, he didn’t mention any serious side effects). -After the director consultation ended, I had the consultant consultation. When I asked about postoperative care, she said there isn’t really any reason to come in after surgery (not even to check how the surgery turned out), but they do contact you regularly to ask about your condition. -She told me the price, said there would absolutely be no proxy surgery, and said the anesthesia is done separately by a board-certified anesthesiologist/chair, so there is an additional 110,000 won fee. -The CCTV runs 24 hours a day, there is a separate company in charge of CCTV, and if you request it in advance, you can view the CCTV footage. Overall: The consultant-director-consultant consultations took about 20 minutes total. It didn’t feel like they explained things in detail. I recorded the consultations, and after each consultation ended, I listened to the recording and organized everything in a notebook with a pen exactly as it was said. It felt 100% like taking notes while listening to an online lecture, so it felt like I was studying...
