I went around to several hospitals in the Busan area to look into eye and nose surgery (I still didn’t know what direction I wanted for plastic surgery and was just vaguely looking into it) At other hospitals, most of them really only gave me quotes for “eyes and nose,” and there were a lot of consultations where they suggested doing this or that. Then I thought I should also look into places in nearby Daegu, so I chose one of the well-known places and went there. 1. Overall approach to the quote When I first met Director Lee Young-joo, he was older than I expected. And from the very beginning, he took a different? approach from other hospitals, asking, “Why are you trying to get plastic surgery?” and “What is your goal?” (At first I wondered why he was asking that, but the more the consultation went on, I felt that he was sincerely trying to get to know the patient and tailor things for their benefit.) So I told him that I had often been told my eyes looked sleepy, and that my nose had a hump, so I wanted to fix it while I was at it, and that I preferred a natural look over a flashy one. Then he took photos and checked this and that on the computer, and said my eyes didn’t seem to need anything in particular, and that it might be good to do the nose because of the hump, but that my issue wasn’t my eyes or nose; the problem right now was my receding chin, and that this was the most urgent. He took a different approach to plastic surgery compared with other hospitals. 2. The director’s attitude Then he continued, “Plastic surgery is something you can’t undo once you’ve had it done, especially the eyes or nose.” “People think eye surgery is easy, but once you cut and suture, it’s irreversible surgery. Think carefully.” “And looking at you, your receding chin is priority number 0, more than your eyes or nose. Resolve this first, then think about the eyes/nose.” He gave me a different quote from other hospitals. Then he told me to ask if I had any questions about silicone for a receding chin, so I asked, “I heard that if you put in silicone, the bone melts. Is it okay?” -> “Silicone does not melt the bone, but it is true that it can sink in. However, it happens extremely slowly and only slightly, and once it goes in beyond a certain point, it becomes fixed and no longer sinks in; rather, it becomes stable.” “Aren’t there side effects?” -> “Actually, silicone insertion has the fewest side effects. Things like genioplasty or filler involve shaving the chin or injecting filler that remains and becomes encapsulated, which can instead cause side effects. Silicone does not react with the body, so it is the most stable.” “And even if a side effect like inflammation occurs, later you can simply remove only the silicone and that’s it. You can return to how it was before.” “I also had silicone inserted. Touch it and see.” And so on. He showed a very trustworthy attitude. 3. Surgery After thinking it over like that, I trusted him and scheduled the surgery. The surgery took 30-40 minutes and was done under sedation anesthesia (but it was sedation anesthesia where I was conscious). They made a 4-5 mm? incision near the lower lip and inserted the silicone. Right after surgery, they taped my chin, and the jawline area swelled. The taping was removed on day 4. The stitches were removed on day 7? I revisited one month later, and the director checked the surgical condition. I’m scheduled to have it checked again after 6 months. 4. Surgery review Right after surgery, it hurt and my mouth didn’t move well, so even eating was difficult (I mostly ate porridge). From 3-4 days later, chewing was possible, but it was still uncomfortable. From about 1 week later, the swelling went down, and it seemed like a lot had gone down, but there was still residual swelling (at the time, I thought it had all gone down). From 1 month later, eating was no problem, there was no pain, and a lot of the swelling had gone down. After about 3 months had passed, even the residual swelling was really all gone, and there was no problem at all with daily life. Of course, even from one week after surgery, there was no problem with daily life, but compared with then, it feels much freer now. After the surgery, I’m very satisfied, to the point that I wonder why I didn’t do it sooner. Now that 4 months have passed, it looks very natural, and there is no discomfort or foreign-body sensation at all. 5. Other opinions If you have a receding chin, I highly recommend it. There is really no foreign-body sensation at all, and I have no side effects. Because I now have a jawline, my face looks very harmonious, and I’m very satisfied. The exterior of the building is luxurious yet somehow old-fashioned, but also luxurious. Inside the building, it is quite luxurious and well set up (I liked that you could see outside through the full-height windows). The operating room was a bit small and old-fashioned. The cost was fixed-price, 2.2 million won including VAT, and it was a bit more expensive than other hospitals. The counseling manager? in charge was very kind. Among the directors at Joseph Hospital, he was the only one who did not take a surgery reservation deposit and said aftercare was also possible. And he took a very patient-centered consultation approach and a safety-centered surgical approach. 6. Conclusion I’m very satisfied and have no regrets at all.
