Review of Non-Extraction Orthodontic Treatment at a University Hospital 15 Years Ago

When I was a teenager, my malocclusion was so severe that I started orthodontic treatment.. It was at Chosun University Dental Hospital in Gwangju. Back then, orthodontics wasn’t common at regular dental clinics, so I went out of my way to travel far.. For nearly four years I could barely chew or eat properly, and while enduring it, my height didn’t grow as much as it should have and my studies were affected too.. It came back about 40 percent because of two factors. 1. Even though there were more teeth than space, the doctor did not extract any teeth and proceeded with treatment. Part of that was my parents’ fault because they valued my teeth so much that they didn’t want them removed.. But looking back, no matter who I ask, this was definitely a case where about two teeth should have been extracted. 2. They only gave me removable retainers and didn’t provide bonded ones at all.. This depends 100 percent on the patient’s own willpower, so it’s very risky for teenagers or adults who don’t yet have enough self-discipline. My lower teeth have almost returned to how they were, so I had to get orthodontic retreatment.

Please research orthodontic clinics and doctors very carefully.. And every time you visit, check whether things are going well and say what needs to be said. Not to the nurse, but to the doctor ㅋ
