It seems like a lot of people are curious about ptosis correction, so I’m writing this.
First, before getting ptosis correction (blepharoptosis) surgery, if you want to check whether you have blepharoptosis, go to an ophthalmology clinic, not a plastic surgery clinic, and get examined!!!!!
Most plastic surgery clinics will tell you to get ptosis correction. Because it makes money! To know the exact condition of your eyes, you need to be examined by an ophthalmologist!
※ Self-check for blepharoptosis 1. You open your eyes using your eyebrows or forehead 2. It is hard to open your eyes (your eyes have no strength) 3. When watching TV or anything else, you lift your chin to look (this is because the strength to open the eyes is insufficient, so the eyelids cover a lot of the pupils, making it hard to secure the visual field, so you end up lifting your chin to see) 4. A sleepy-looking impression 5. Forehead wrinkles
Besides that, there can also be astigmatism, shoulder pain caused by maintaining a posture of lifting (sticking out) the chin to look for a long time, and headaches caused by that.
In my case, all of the above applied, so I thought I had severe blepharoptosis, but after getting examined at the ophthalmology department of a university hospital, the result was mild.
A mild level is a level where you may or may not have surgery, and it causes only small inconveniences in daily life. (It felt big to me, but it seems that the “major inconvenience” they mean here is something severe enough to make daily life difficult.)
So the doctor said, “You can have surgery or not, but as people age, everyone’s eyelids droop, and people with blepharoptosis end up seeing less than ordinary people due to eyelid drooping + blepharoptosis, so you’ll have to do it later when you get older anyway.”
For someone like me, who has serious indecisiveness, hearing that I could do it or not do it was so painful. So I visited several clinics, looked up reviews, thought about whether I should have the surgery, and even after booking surgery I kept wondering whether I should not do it.
In the end, I had ptosis correction + inner double eyelid surgery with a full incision. I don’t know if the doctor was skilled or if my tissue heals well, but from the day of surgery to day 3, I did not have much swelling. (About the eye condition of other people’s 2-week post-op reviews?)
From day 4 the swelling started going down, and now that it has been about 2 weeks since surgery, I think about 97% of the swelling is gone. Even to me, it feels natural like my own eyes, and people I know say the same.
There was not a single side effect of ptosis correction surgery that I had worried about before surgery, and my eyes open well, so I really like it. I think this is probably because I did not get overly greedy.
My mindset was, “I’m not expecting a dramatic change, so please just let there be no side effects. I just hope I don’t regret getting eye surgery.” So I think it turned out well, but once the surgery goes well, human greed is scary...
I do think things like, I should have made my eyes just a little bigger. I should have made the inner double eyelids just a little bigger. My eyes seem slightly uneven... But I think if I had gotten greedier here, my eyes could have become too intense, strange, or there could have been side effects or problems. Since my family and friends, who know well what I looked like before and after surgery, all say I did really well to have the surgery, I’m just living satisfied.
I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t get greedy or because my eyes were not small to begin with, but there was no dramatic change.
In conclusion, about ptosis correction surgery: I am a case where the surgery went well, but there are also many people who failed. I hope you think carefully and decide. I don’t regret having surgery. Of course, I’ll have to see after more time passes.
※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※ Important!!!!! If you do not have blepharoptosis and you get ptosis correction for “cosmetic purposes,” for reasons like “they say I’ll look prettier if I also get ptosis correction,” I really do not recommend it. If your eyes already open well enough and you get ptosis correction, a situation where your eyes do not close can happen.
Blepharoptosis surgery is meant to make someone whose eye-opening strength is 50 closer to 100. What do you think happens if someone whose eye-opening strength is 100 gets it???
Of course, there are probably several people who got ptosis correction even without blepharoptosis, had the surgery go well without side effects, and became prettier or more handsome. But you need to stop thinking that will be you.
I think if you don’t get greedy, there won’t be cases where surgery fails. Of course, the doctor’s skill is the most important!! ※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※※
I smoked until 30 minutes before surgery on the day of surgery, then didn’t smoke after surgery, and from the day after surgery I smoked as usual. (About 14 cigarettes a day)
If you have any other questions, leave a comment and I’ll answer as far as I know.
