I had square jaw surgery last Thursday, and now it has been exactly day 7! It was a week of being stressed because of swelling and the compression bandㅠㅠㅠ Now I am really a normal personㅁ!! I am off the compression band and off the medicine too!!
1. Swelling & mouth opening They said from day 7 onward, I do not have to wear the compression band anymore. They said I could wear it if I wanted, but the compression band hurt so much for meㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ Whenever I wore the compression band, my jaw hurt so, so much.. Last night while sleeping was really the worst ever. I had worn it all the time except when eating or gargling. But when I wrapped the compression band, my neck also got somewhat fixed? compressed? and maybe that was done wrong, because at night my throat hurt so much that I woke up startled. Wow... The throat pain on the day of surgery was really just like a mild cold... In other people's reviews, someone said their throat felt like it was being torn apart on the day of surgery, and I think I finally understood exactly what that felt like last night.. Breathing was painful. Every time air went into my throat, it felt like my throat was being scraped with a sharp instrument.... In the end, I loosened the compression band and slept, and by morning it was okay, thankfully ㅠㅠ
First, for the swelling, since I look in the mirror every day, I thought there was no real change, but now I can definitely go anywhere wearing a mask!! Being told I do not have to wear the compression band is so comfortableㅠㅠㅠ But anyone can tell I look swollen. It feels like I look swollen. It is a bit hard to think, "Is this just someone with slightly chubby cheeks?"ㅋㅋ because the cheeks feel saggy below the lips. Still, when I look at myself, I look human.. Ha~~ now I can finally live a little. I am really just waiting for the rest of the swelling to go down quickly..ㅎ
Mouth opening is.. ㅋㅋㅋㅋOriginally, I could fit an entire fist inside my mouthㅋㅋㅋ so right now it definitely opens less. But somehow I forced my way through and brushed all the way inside my mouth with a baby toothbrush. For meals, I just ate regular food, even things like pork cutlet, by cutting them a little smaller.
2. Meals I really, really love spicy food, so that was hardㅠㅠ Of course, I still cannot eat spicy foodㅠㅠ Until the stitches are removed, hot & spicy foods are not allowed. From the day after surgery and in the beginning, I ate things like porridge, soup, juice, soft tofu, and pudding. The day before yesterday? I crushed boiled dumplings and ate them, and yesterday I finally ate Vietnamese pho and fried rice that I got to-go. And just now, after going to the hospital, I ate soy-sauce-marinated shrimp rice bowl and pork cutlet♡♡ Even if it is not spicy, having a stimulating flavor come in makes me feel aliveㅠㅠ Until the day before yesterday, rather than chewing, it felt like pushing food into the areas where my teeth were like a Nutcracker doll and mashing it?? That is how I ate. People say they eat with their front teeth... but my front teeth hurt and were so sensitive that I really could not do it ㅠㅠㅠ Maybe because of the swelling, my teeth do not meet properly either. Compared to that, today I ate with a slightly more normal feeling of 'chewing.' I want to hurry up and eat Yupdduk and Teumsae ramenㅠㅠㅠㅠ
When you get too sick of things like porridge, I really recommend pudding. It is not that I get tired of the taste of porridge itself, but more the texture.. No matter how delicious something is, because you blend it to eat it, it really tastes bad.... I realized again how important the feeling of chewing is. Pudding definitely has more of a chew than porridge, and because the texture is a little bouncy and different, I think it would be good to eat when you are really, really tired of porridge. Or cheesecake! This also has a mousse-like texture, so it goes down easily, but it feels different from porridge-type foods, so I think it is okay. Tofu or acorn jelly with soy sauce is also good~
3. Side effects??
First of all, I have no sensory abnormality at all. Things like, when touching it, it feels like someone else's face? I do not think I have anything like that at all. But there were about two things that felt strange to me, so I went to the hospital today and told them.. I had thought I would accept it even if there were side effects, but when it actually happened, I felt really upset... I thought, ah, there are many surgeries that go well without side effects, so why me....
First, when I pull my lips upward? or make a kind of sunken-mouth shape, my left jaw dents in and a long vertical line appears, along with chin dimpling.. This keeps happening, and first, according to the doctor, because I did not have chin-tip surgery, it does not seem like a problem occurred in that area, and they said it is just the original shape of my chin muscle.. I definitely did not have this before though... Anyway, because of swelling, it can be temporarily pulled from both sides and create something like that, but since I did not have surgery on that area, it is not something problematic. That was the conclusion. I think I will have to keep watching this.
Second, when I touch the operated jawline on the left side, it feels like something clatters? and moves, and there is a sound tooㅜㅜ Yesterday I was really scared.. Like, what if this is a foreign body.. What if I have to have surgery again.. I kept whining about it.. I really cannot even imagine having surgery again,,, That seriously makes no sense..... Anyway, for this, according to the doctor, because the amount of jawbone removed was quite large, it may take some time for it to settle back into place? or fuse? Anyway, I do not remember well, but they said it can take some time until that happens, so because there is some empty space left, that sound happens, and the doctor thinks it is not a clattering sound but more like a fluid sound.. But for this too, since I did not have an implant placed, they said it does not seem like something went wrong. This is... it gives me such chills when I touch it, so for now I am just not touching it...
4. Consultant
When I had pain from the compression band, when the jaw wrinkle appeared, and when that sound happened, I messaged them right away because I am easily scared..ㅠㅠ But every time, they always gave very long replies, asked me to take photos and checked them by photo, and always called me. They carefully checked what it felt like and what the symptoms were. I thought this was good, and my parents thought so too, so I am writing it down..ㅎ
5. Aftercare
Last time, after receiving laser treatment for about 30 minutes once, I received my first proper swelling care! It was done with a therapist in a treatment room with two beds~ First, I received laser for 10 minutes, and then you know that thing they do on pregnant women's bellies, applying aloe and rolling something around? It was similar to that. I think this was a radiofrequency device? They applied gel to my face and rolled it over my face with that. My jaw throbbed a bit and the machine was noisy..ㅎ After that, they applied some kind of cream? and did something like a modeling mask! I went to the hospital trembling because I thought it might be a side effect, but after receiving skin care, I felt goodㅋㅋㅋ
