Square jaw 2-week review + detailed progress summary

I’m the person who posted a review exactly one week ago.

During week 2, time went ridiculously slowly lol. But the swelling and pain really settled day by day, so now I’m doing almost all daily activities without much difficulty. I don’t know if it’s because the surgery went well, because I only had square jaw surgery, because of my constitution, or because I worked hard on aftercare.. It must have been a combination of factors, right? Anyway, I did warm compresses and walked every day. Honestly, I don’t know if pumpkin juice helpedㅠㅠ;

Today, I finally had the stitches removed. When they remove the stitches, it stings and hurtsㅠㅠ Still, it was all done within about 1-2 minutes, and after that I saw the doctor. I said I didn’t have any discomfort, and the doctor patted me reassuringly and said I’d get even prettier from now onㅠㅠ

When I look in the mirror now, I feel like I’m about 2% slimmer than before surgery? Still, I can see the swelling has gone down compared with a week ago. Even the hard areas I thought were bone went down!! So everyone, let’s have hope and waitㅠㅠ

I need to go back around May to check progress once more, and after I go for care next week, that’s it.. This is a surgery I went through with after worrying about it for about 15 years, so I have no regrets. Rather, it feels like I’ve put down a heavy burden from my shoulders. Now I’ve done my best, so I’ll just live with this face, something like that.. A sense of relief, I guess..ㅋ

Here is the progress summary so far

<Day of surgery> I got on the operating table, had the IV put in, heard the anesthesiologist say, “We’ll give you medicine that makes you sleepy,” and then my memory cut off. When I woke up, I was woozy, barely sat in a wheelchair, and was moved to the hospital room. I was intoxicated from the anesthetic gas, so my mind was going in and out, my throat hurt like I had the flu, and my nose hurt tooㅠㅠ It hurt when I breathed, and my stomach felt so nauseous I thought I was nearly dyingㅠㅠ After getting painkillers, the pain started improving from about 1 hour later. For 6 hours after surgery, I couldn’t drink water and couldn’t sleep, so it was extremely painful. When I got too sleepy, I went to the bathroom and sat on the cool toilet seat to barely wake myself up;; From the moment I could drink water, I was happy because I could sleepㅋㅋㅠㅠ At night, I woke up about every 2 hours, walked one lap around the ward, drank a sip of water, and passed the time like that. During the night, the nurse gave me injections for reducing swelling, dissolving phlegm, a stomach protectant, and antibiotics about 2 times.

<Day 1> Around 6 a.m., the nurse came in, read the post-surgery precautions, I took a facial X-ray, had one swelling-care session, saw the doctor, and was discharged. I had to gargle once every 2 hours and diligently do cold compresses.

<Days 2-3> The swelling moved down to the area under the cheeks and square jaw, so I looked like Bogus;; I thought if my face hardened like this, I’d be ruined. Walking definitely improved the swelling. For meals, I ate porridge, yogurt, and soft tofu. I tried steamed egg once, but it was too difficult, so I gave up.

<Days 4-7> The major swelling went down, and my face returned to how it looked before surgery lol. I did briefly think, did I get surgery for this? From this point, I started normal meals. I brushed my teeth using an orthodontic toothbrush and gargled diligently every 2 hours. I also worked hard on walking and warm compressesㅠㅠ I just focused insanely on aftercare. Until about days 5-6, I wore a mask, and from day 7 I could go around without a mask.

<Days 8-14> The swelling started to go down very slightly, little by little. Honestly, after the day-7 hospital visit, I got a bit lax with aftercare.. Still, I did warm compresses 3 times a day and walked to some extent. I also got a bit lazy with gargling, so I only did it about 3 times a day. Still, recovery continued to progress. I also became able to sleep lying on my side.

Reading other posts, I guess I didn’t have much bleeding because I came out without a blood drain. So maybe the swelling was relatively less! Still, I need to wait a few months to see the result.ㅎ
