I had my first nasal tip surgery in 2018. So I’m a bit hazy on the price. But since it was my first surgery and it didn’t seem like an absurdly expensive place to begin with... Plus, I decided on surgery after a second consultation with quite a time gap (2 years later), and they did the surgery based on the quote from when I first came, so I remember it being cheaper than expected.
At the first consultation, he kept saying it seemed like I didn’t need to do it. He kept saying that right up until I was lying on the operating table before anesthesia started lol. I think you can take that as him having a conservative point of view.
During the consultation, the overall atmosphere was cheerful, with compliments that my fat grafting had turned out well. When we talked about the nose, he really seemed like a specialist, so I trusted him.
My nose was long in terms of my facial proportions, and the middle part of the nasal tip drooped and looked large, so it felt like a long bulbous nose? I said I didn’t want a big change and hoped the proportions of my forehead, midface, and lower face would look balanced.
Then he showed me a nasal bone model while explaining: he said he would cut and reduce both wing-like sides of the nasal tip cartilage and the column area, then build support with ear cartilage to raise the nasal tip. Oh, and he said he would cut the muscle that strongly pulls down the nasal tip when I smile. He told me in advance not to ever raise my nasal bridge with silicone later, because the angle of my bridge is already very good lol. He said my nasal skin is on the thicker side, so the incision scar probably wouldn’t show much. (It really is almost invisible.)
At the second consultation, I went in with my mind about 90% made up to do it. I remember it still being a cheerful and professional consultation. I heard that celebrity KJH, who was famous for her nose at the time, had it done here, so I asked if that was true. He was really surprised and asked how I knew that, then said she had come with her mother and was very kind lol. He suddenly told me a nice story about that celebrity, so it warmed my heart lolol.
On the day of surgery, I remember the anesthesia being sedation plus local anesthesia. After it was over, the doctor was amazed, saying there had been this much bone to cut out lol. (But before anesthesia you said I didn’t have to do it, doctor!! lol Anyway, he’s subtly funny.) The post-op treatment was also done very carefully by the nurse and the doctor.
The result is the most important, right? After surgery, my nasal tip definitely became shorter, and there was not even a trace of an artificial look. In a way, it felt like my original nose had just been reduced to fit my proportions, so it was fascinating and I was very satisfied.
The reason my expectation rating is 4 stars is more about my own greed than the doctor’s skill. I guess people’s greed never ends... I keep thinking, wouldn’t it be prettier if my nostril wings were reduced just veeeery slightly, and my nasal tip were raised just a little, like it looks in app cameras? Thoughts of revision surgery are slowly creeping in...
In conclusion, Dr. Jang Ik-su clearly improves the problematic flaws of my original nose and maximizes natural beauty. But I think he doesn’t greatly touch the kind of personal flaws that arise in the subjective realm of beauty, things that other people wouldn’t necessarily see as problems. When it comes to “creating” that pretty nose shape we praise as beautiful (a subjective ideal lol), I think he may be a bit less inclined than younger doctors!
