I had rhinoplasty using ear cartilage at Goksaem Plastic Surgery. But a noticeable scar formed where the cartilage was harvested, and my ear became significantly deformed. (This is a painful area for me, so please understand that I can’t share photos.) And after more than 6 months had passed and almost all the swelling had gone down, the shape improved a little, but the crooked nose and other parts I had requested before surgery did not improve at all.
I was so depressed because the deformity and scar on my ear ruined my daily life and dreams, and because of this I went to every ear-related hospital and even had additional surgery, but it could not be reversed. My nose was the same; because the parts I mentioned above did not improve, I had revision surgery at another hospital. But I did not ask for anything else and requested a refund from the hospital. The hospital said we should ask an expert to judge, and in the end I did not receive any refund or compensation. The hospital’s position is that, based on the expert’s objective judgment, they cannot do anything for me. (I am so curious about the director’s personal thoughts, but the hospital kept saying to leave the judgment only to the expert.)
Later, after the swelling went down, I asked because it seemed like my crooked nose had not improved at all, and they said this was a congenital asymmetry problem so it cannot be corrected, and that it seems to be because the previous osteotomy was done strangely. Then I wonder why they spoke at first as if it could be done. I didn’t pay close to 10 million won in expensive surgery fees to hear this kind of thing? And I think that at this hospital, although I had several consultations before surgery, I was not given a detailed explanation about scarring and deformity. I have many grounds for this claim, but to put it briefly, if they had explained that this degree of deformity and scarring could occur and shown examples, would a normal person have gone through with the surgery even knowing that?
The director said that even an acquaintance of his had surgery by him and had worse ear deformity than me but said nothing, and that my degree of deformity was average or on the smaller side. So it felt as if I had become the strange person. It’s my face, and isn’t it natural for a person to become sensitive after having surgery? What does it have to do with me that his acquaintance had a worse deformity and said nothing, and how would I know whether that is true or not? Also, is he saying this as if it’s supposed to be comforting? Most of all, if the consent form says asymmetry is difficult to correct and deformity can occur, does that mean they do not have to provide any compensation or take any responsibility for the surgical result? Honestly, I don’t think I would feel better even if I received 100 million won, and if I could fix it even by spending 100 million won, I feel like I would want to fix it again. I hope everyone checks carefully before surgery, not only the consent form but also the possible scenarios and how they will take responsibility, so that nothing like this happens to you. Judge carefully. No one will take responsibility, and your lives are at stake.
