I had rhinoplasty in Daegu 7 years ago with a closed approach. After going to consultations at several places, I had surgery at a place that said a closed approach was possible. Every other place talked about osteotomy and an open approach, but only the director who did my surgery said a closed approach was possible and said he didn’t understand why everyone makes noses obviously high, and that he would make it as natural as possible, so I had surgery with silicone and ear cartilage. It really did turn out natural, so nobody even noticed I had surgery. But after a few years passed, my nose started feeling too hard and uncomfortable. Sometimes the columella area would get red, and my nose felt throbbing and uncomfortable. Unlike my friend who had surgery the same way as me, I couldn’t make a pig nose, and it was very hard. Then, during a consultation at another plastic surgery clinic that I followed my friend to, I had a CT scan and found out that an L-shaped silicone implant had been cut at the end and inserted, and that there was another material presumed to be Medpor in the columella. The shock at that time... When I looked into it, the director who performed my surgery had opened a bigger clinic elsewhere. I found the clinic he opened and asked the director who operated on me what he used in the columella and inquired about removal. He talked about having published Medpor in a journal and only said a lot of scary things, like that my nose would collapse if it was removed and that I would get contracture and a pig nose. Without any apology at all for using Medpor without consulting me, he just talked about revision surgery with dermis. Because of the foreign-body sensation in my nose, inflammation that flares up from time to time, and my nostrils becoming crooked, I’m going around looking into removal. I also had consultations at 3 places in Seoul. Everyone can’t even tell I had nose surgery, so I wonder why I did it back then.
