Before/after Hospital choice: 1. Doctor’s skill: First of all, I didn’t have a big desire for a higher nose bridge or a specific shape. My goals were to get something that suited me + stop getting filler + correct my long nose.
I only set the category to nose and picked only doctors with the most recent reviews (2-3 months) to go for consultations.
Among them, I focused on the variety(?) of nose shapes in the surgical reviews and made my final choice. Even if I explained things badly, I felt like this doctor would make it suit my overall face as much as possible.
2. Hospital atmosphere/kindness: Even when the consultation ran long, everyone was kind. Sometimes there are many nurses who seem sullen, but there weren’t many like that here, and there was someone who was reaaally kind, so overall I was satisfied.
[Review of the surgery itself]
Day of surgery - I was so scared of anesthesia, but the doctor patted me and told me not to worry too much, so I felt reassured going into surgery. (Of! course! it’s a hospital with an anesthesiologist.)
Except for pain where the rib was removed (the pain disappeared within a week) and the difficulty of breathing through my mouth, there was no pain at the surgical site. One random tip is that a thick, sticky lip balm is an essential item. You have to apply a thick layer on your lips before sleeping so they don’t crack.
One week - If you do cold/hot compresses diligently, the swelling really goes down well. When the stitches were removed, the nurses were kind + it didn’t hurt!!! I was worried because I read reviews saying it hurt like death, but my hand hurt more from clenching it so tightly from tension. Just do the compresses diligently, and I recommend buying several extra compress packs besides what the hospital gives you.
Another random recommendation: For people with poor eyesight, there are glasses specifically for nose surgery. Buy them in advance, or get LASIK first.
2-3 weeks - My friends of twenty years said my nose turned out really well and that new people I meet would never know. No one around me had had nose surgery, but they said they all started wondering if they should get it too. Personally, I’m very satisfied too. From week three, it seems most of the swelling on the nasal bridge is almost gone.
*****Final review at about one month - People with a long, bulbous nose will know. You hate taking side-profile photos, and especially hate taking photos when smiling widely. Because the nasal tip spreads more and droops, I hated taking photos in general and had a habit of lowering my head whenever I smiled. To make matters worse, my midface was also long. So I didn’t really tie my hair up either,
but after surgery, I gained confidence in my side profile too, and I tie my hair up neatly now. People around me have also said that somehow my face looks smaller than before. I’m so happy I no longer have to worry about my nose looking spread out when I smile. It just raises the small daily satisfaction in life.
There is still swelling at the nasal tip, but personally I really like the current state too, and I feel like spending the money and going through the hardship was worth it.
