Before Before I had ultra-high myopia, also had astigmatism, both corneas were on the slightly thicker side, my pupils were large, and my eyes were also somewhat dry. Most clinics said it was fortunate, because if my corneas had been just a little less thick, I could not have had surgery.
I had a lot of worries, so at the time I got eye exams and consultations at many different places, and one doctor told me not to do it. (It was a clinic that does a lot of vision correction surgery, and they said it because they sincerely considered my situation, so I still feel grateful for that.)
But I really wanted to do it, and in 2013 I had LASEK at a place said to specialize in ultra-high myopia, with the director who was the most famous at that clinic at the time. They did not fully correct the astigmatism, set the target visual acuity at 0.8-0.9, and did an undercorrection.
Until now, it has stayed at a level where I have no difficulty in daily life, and I am very satisfied even with this. On days when my condition is good, both eyes come out at 0.9-1.0, and even on bad days they are at least above 0.8. But honestly, numbers do not look sharply clear. Since the astigmatism was undercorrected, it does feel slightly blurry.
Because I take medication, I get examined once a year at the ophthalmology department of a university hospital, and there are no other abnormalities with the retina, intraocular pressure, etc. I do have a certain amount of glare and dryness, but I expected that before surgery and made the decision.
For reference, the places I debated until the end at the time were nearby Clinic A (they were the first to notice and clearly tell me about an eye-related issue of mine that no other doctor knew about. I thought they were skilled.) and Clinic B (the doctor who calmly persuaded me not to have surgery). I thought about it for a really long time and weighed the pros and cons a lot before deciding, and so far I have no regrets.
For reference, the price I wrote is not exact Was it 2.3 million won or 2.8 million won… Considering prices at the time, it was expensive.
