[Vision before surgery] - Left: myopia -8.0 / astigmatism 1.25 - Right: myopia -6.5 / astigmatism 0.75 (I think it was about that)
My eyes had high myopia combined with astigmatism, and after seeing reviews from people around me who had vision correction surgery (especially my mom, who had LASEK but her vision regressed), I decided on implantable contact lens surgery because I thought it would suit my eyes and my vision would be maintained well. Originally, I was going to have surgery at a local ophthalmology clinic near my family home, but after one consultation, the doctor recommended adding LASIK on top of ICL, and the consultation manager didn’t seem to know much about ICL either, so I decided I should go to Gangnam and narrowed it down to 2 hospital candidates. (Hi Eye Clinic, B&VIIT)
After that, I went to Hi Eye Clinic for my first consultation, and the good points were: 1. The director kindly answered the things I was curious about before surgery. Since he mainly does implantable contact lens surgery, he explained things well, and I felt reassured. 2. They recommended lenses that truly suited my eyes / no mention at all of additional surgery or unnecessary things - for example, he said the astigmatism in my right eye was due to high myopia, so there was no need to use a lens that specifically corrects astigmatism in the right eye. Only my left eye had severe astigmatism, so for the left eye I used an astigmatism-correcting lens, and for the right eye just a regular lens(?). 3. The structure had a separate optometrist and a separate consultation staff member, and the person who consulted with me was kind. Everyone at the hospital was kind. - So right after the consultation, I had surgery the same day. There was also a same-day surgery discount.
[Surgery review] It doesn’t hurt while receiving it, but afterward my eyes stung for a while, so I kept crying. (The hospital did say it was their first time seeing someone cry this much.) For 2 days after surgery, my eyes hurt a bit, but after that I found the light. However, for about 1 to 1.5 years, I did have some halos at night and a ring phenomenon. At some point, the halos and ring phenomenon disappeared to the point where they no longer bothered me, but I think they are symptoms that inevitably appear with implantable contact lens surgery, and you can only wait for time to resolve them.
And actually, the part I was most worried about during the preoperative eye exam was that I didn’t have many endothelial cells (the left eye was around 2200~2100). I did tell the director I was worried about this, and he said endothelial cells can decrease right after surgery but recover quickly, and since it is a posterior chamber lens, there shouldn’t be that much decrease in endothelial cells. Even afterward, during regular checkups, they carefully reviewed my eye exam results including endothelial cells, so I’m satisfied~!
For reference, my current vision is about 1.0 in both eyes.
