Nose Surgery Reviews

Raw, unfiltered rhinoplasty review

Hello! This is my first time writing something like this, so I’m not really sure how to write it.. I usually don’t post things like this, but I had an enormous amount of mental distress after my nose surgery, so I wanted to help others in the same situation.. (I actually asked a ton of questions on online Q&A sites after my nose surgery..) That’s why I ended up writing this! I hope it helps. I had a low nose, a short nose, and a bulbous nose, and I had cartilage binding, osteotomy, septal cartilage, and 3 mm silicone!

Day of nose surgery - I had the surgery while I had a slight cold, and after the operation my throat hurt soooo much. When I swallowed saliva, my throat hurt as if it were burning. Afterward I ate nurungji for meals, and other people said they ate well, but I barely ate anything. And because my nose was blocked, I had to breathe through my mouth, and my mouth got so dry. I bought a lot of straws, turned on a humidifier, and kept drinking water continuously, almost like I was drinking the water coming out of the humidifier, and that at least made it better. As for swelling, I tried to sleep sitting up, but it was too uncomfortable and I couldn’t sleep, so I put a pillow high under my head and just lay down to sleep! There was almost no swelling on the day itself!

Day 1 after nose surgery When I woke up after sleeping, my face was puffed up and, more than anything, not being able to breathe was so frustrating. Until day 1, I was just so exhausted that I didn’t even go for a walk, and I kept doing ice compresses. Then I watched a YouTube video saying that sucking on candy helps with dry mouth, so I ate throat lozenges, and I really recommend them. Breathing became much easier, my mouth didn’t get dry, and I even fell asleep with candy in my mouth. Because my mouth wasn’t drying out, the quality of my sleep improved. And because of the packing blocking my nose, I had never snored in my life, but I snored this time (it didn’t affect the shape of my nose at all). I made a huge effort not to roll onto my side because I was afraid my nose would get bent.

Day 2 after nose surgery By day 2, I had somewhat gotten used to the breathing, but the incision area on my nose hurt so much, and my nose just hurt so badly. I searched online and saw that not everyone has it like this, but my day 2 was so painful that tears were literally running down from my nose. I contacted the coordinator at this point, and they said some people do have nose pain.

Day 3 after nose surgery I was so swollen by then that even when sitting or lying down, it felt like I was swelling in real time, and opening my eyes was really hard. By day 3 I was so exhausted that public transportation to the hospital was impossible, so I went by car.. Finally getting the packing removed felt refreshing!! I think I got swelling laser treatment and swelling IV fluids(?) then. I wasn’t sure if it helped, but I just got it anyway thinking it probably did. But when I got home, my nose was blocked again and I felt congested, but by then I had gotten used to not being able to breathe until day 2, so it was fine.

Days 4 to 6 after nose surgery During this time I also did compresses often, took long walks around a park that was about an hour away, went on one long walk and one short walk, drank pumpkin red bean tea, did compresses, and repeated that. From day 5 maybe, the taped area got so itchy, seriously unbearably itchy to the point I couldn’t sleep... Itching was pain too.

Day 7 after nose surgery Finally the splint came off, and from this point on I developed not pain-related mental distress but shape-related mental distress. First of all, my nose was so high it looked like it was about to launch into space, and I didn’t like the shape. I also got an epicanthal fold along with an Avatar-like nose bridge, so I looked completely exhausted, and I think my appearance-related anxiety got really bad at that point. But the bulbous tip seemed improved and slimmer, so I was only satisfied with that and disliked everything else. Also, blackheads and sebum were pouring out of my nose (I’m still living with the blackheads even now..). I also developed hives where the tape had been, so my skin was completely wrecked

Days 8 to 2 weeks after nose surgery From then on I went back to my part-time job, and because a regular mask hurt my nose, I worked wearing a humidifier mask. I was doing serving work at a busy restaurant, so I walked a lot and had no time to rest, and maybe because of that, I should say the part-time job helped, but the swelling went down well. As expected, walking a lot really does make the swelling go down fast! And I had a lot of bruising (even at one month, I still have a bit of bruising left), so it looked like I had done very heavy contouring makeup, and I kept wearing a mask. Until the 2-week mark, my Avatar-like nose bridge and epicanthal fold were still very pronounced, and I think I was still mentally distressed the whole time. I really kept posting on online Q&A sites.. haha

From 2 weeks to 3 weeks after nose surgery Around then I had another worry. At the splint removal, my nose was definitely slim, but it looked like my original nose was showing and the bulbous tip improvement wasn’t obvious. I think I worried about that. But it is gradually getting slimmer! Even at one month it’s still not extremely slim, but I heard the tip swelling takes a long time, so I’m planning to wait a bit longer. From then on, the epicanthal fold gradually started to relax, and it seemed less like an Avatar face. But it still felt a bit like an Avatar face! Don’t worry that the Avatar look will last forever. It all gets better.

Days 26 to 28 after nose surgery (the day my mental distress peaked) Normally they recommend drinking alcohol only after one month, but I was a college student and there was an event, so I had no choice but to drink. So I drank about 4 shots of soju. Then the mental distress started again. The next day after taking a nap, I woke up and my nose was red, so I think I got worried about complications. Since it was after drinking, it seemed more likely to be inflammation, and the very center of the tip was red, with a little white pimple-like bump there, so I couldn’t tell whether that white bump caused the inflammation or whether inflammation had developed. When I searched YouTube, it said redness in the middle is more likely to be inflammation... I slept thinking it would disappear the next day, but it kept being red. At that point I thought it was a complication and started worrying about what if I had to remove the silicone, and that was probably my biggest mental breakdown. I kept thinking only about my nose being red. I contacted the coordinator and took the remaining antibiotics (I woke up late, so I had only been taking the lunch and dinner medication, and there was a lot of morning medication left). While I was taking the medicine like that, my nose hurt so much, and the glabella area hurt too, and it felt really tight, but the nose didn’t swell or anything, it just hurt a lot. After living like that for 2 days, the redness on my nose disappeared. From then until now, it hasn’t turned red again and it’s completely fine! I still don’t know whether it was really inflammation or whether it was because my blood circulation got worse all of a sudden. According to the doctor, it wasn’t inflammation and seemed more like a sudden drop in blood circulation.

Current Right now I have no pain at all, and even when I sleep on my side there’s no feeling of shifting anymore. My nose isn’t red, it isn’t bent, and there’s no foreign-body sensation, so it’s completely fine now! Before, until about week 3, if I touched the tip of my nose it hurt so much, but now it’s fine! As you can see from my case, I really think alcohol is something to wait on until after one month.

To wrap up.. the pain from my nose surgery was worse for me than for other people, I think, and if I had to do it again I couldn’t, but it really does get prettier by as much as it hurts. I wanted my low nose and bulbous nose, which were my complexes, to be corrected, and I asked for it to be done naturally. Because my nose was low, it gave my face more dimension, and people outside tell me I’m pretty! I didn’t want my impression to change too much, so I think they kept the overall impression from changing a lot. It’s exactly my face, but with my complexes corrected, so it doesn’t look artificial at all, and I’m really, really satisfied! If you get rhinoplasty, mental distress will probably come and go at random times, and I really did have a very hard time because of it! I think 90% of it gets better, so you probably don’t need to worry!! If you have any questions, please ask~!
