Hospital opinion Hello. I am Director Han Sang-hyuk of Gangnam Laren Clinic.
Our hospital has many patients who visit because they had problems at other hospitals, felt the result was awkward, or were dissatisfied.
Even after getting procedures at hospitals said to be famous, there are more cases than expected where the result is awkward or problematic. I suspect it is because of the thought, “I can make it perfect in one go.”
Taking filler improvement for the under-eye area or nasolabial folds as an example, usually 2-3 cc of filler is needed.
That amount can be injected all at once, or, like at our hospital, 1 cc can be injected over 3 sessions. It is inconvenient for the patient too because they must visit 3 times, and it is also disadvantageous for hospital management.
However, the final result differs. Some people get similar results to having it injected all at once, but for others, the way the filler rises and the way the hollowing settles differ.
Because many patients come to our hospital after already having awkward results or problems at other hospitals.. for a procedure without failure, in most cases we treat around 3 cc as 1 cc per session at one-month intervals.
It is highly likely that you had one 1 cc treatment. At first, there is considerable swelling and bruising relative to the filler, so the first-round volume goes down quite a bit. We do explain the final expected volume needed and the decrease in first-round volume, but because there are many procedures, explanations, and treatments, you may not remember well. We will revise our process so we can organize it in writing and provide guidance.
Next, I will address the consultation time. Compared with other hospitals in Gangnam, our hospital tends to schedule patients with wider intervals. It is to the extent that directors from other hospitals point it out.
However, some patients may arrive a few minutes late, or the procedure difficulty may be high and my procedure may run late, so there are times when many patients are waiting afterward and the consultation time is short.
At those times, I sometimes feel rushed during the consultation. If you received an unsatisfactory consultation, I would like to apologize. I am sorry.
If you make an appointment for “the last long consultation of the day,” when there are no patients waiting afterward, consultation can be done with enough time, so please keep that in mind.
Lastly, we do not recommend filler to people for whom filler does not suit them or for whom the improvement effect seems likely to be small.
This is the same even if a procedure appointment has been made and we have set aside time. For about 10-15% of patients, even if it means wasting the reserved time, we do not recommend a procedure.
Because many people were waiting afterward that day, my explanation may have been insufficient. Once again, I apologize. However, if it did not suit you or there was little room for improvement, I would have told you in advance. We recommend a procedure when there is more to gain from it.
Because many patients come to our hospital after already having awkward results or dissatisfaction elsewhere, we recommend procedures only when there is clear room for improvement. If it is not certain, we tell the patient in advance, and if they say even a small improvement is okay, we proceed.
Once again, I apologize for the parts you were dissatisfied with. We will consider preparing improvement measures, such as having patients pay for and receive a sufficient amount all at once like at other hospitals, or documenting information so it remains better in memory. I think that with fillers, the doctor’s aesthetic sense is the most important thing, so after watching YouTube, I visited with expectations for the doctor’s aesthetic sense. Fillers are not cheap, but there was almost no consultation about my facial shape. There was almost no attitude of listening to the patient’s concerns or desired results; it was just an attitude of telling me to go to the procedure room. Fillers are a procedure where communication between doctor and patient is truly important, so I was first taken aback by that attitude. Also, the reviews saying the fillers look natural.. If you inject this little, it would look natural anywhere. It all disappeared in less than a month, so I had the procedure redone by a board-certified plastic surgeon.
