Nose Surgery Reviews

Small, low, spread-out nose (long post warning)

I’m going to write about the reason I ended up here after going around and around the internet. It seems like there aren’t many noses like mine, so after hesitating until the very end, I’m finally going to write this

I have a lot to say, so I’ll start with a quick summary first.

1. My nose was small, low, and spread out, and my lifelong complex was such a total mess that after changing my nose, even my face shape looks improved. It feels so strange and so pretty, and I’m excited

2. But as the swelling goes down, it feels like the tip of my nose is gradually twisting What should I do in this case? Since it’s day 18, is the answer to just not worry about it and wait until more swelling goes down??? Is early correction possible? Or is revision surgery the only way to correct it

3. Has anyone had revision surgery for a spread-out nose with osteotomies on both sides, instead of a hump nose?? If I do need revision surgery, is it better to go back to the original hospital, or would a clinic that specializes in revision surgery be better I really don’t know much Has anyone had an experience like mine?

Please help this ignorant person who went ahead and had surgery without knowing anything, nose surgery experts...

Then I’ll start the review.

{No image 2} My cheekbones and mouth protruded a lot too, but now that my nose sticks out more, they look less noticeable... It feels like my life has changed

My original nose was small and low, but especially the space between my eyebrows was almost nonexistent, to the point where my brow area stuck out more than my nose. Since I didn’t have a nasal bridge, the starting point of my nose was lower, so it was that much shorter and smaller, and even that low nose was spread out sideways

On top of that, my cheekbones were large and my mouth area protruded, so the front view was a problem, but even if I turned my face even a little from the front, the area between my eyebrows was sunken in and my face was wide, my nose was flat. There had never been a human like this before. Is this a person or an Australopithecus... It was truly a total disaster of a face shape

Every time I took a photo, I had to hide as much as possible, and then it became work to fix it with an app. Even when taking group photos, I lived a life where I tried to show only up to my eyes, or deliberately took pictures with only half my face showing

Then this year, my younger brother, whose nose was obviously curved in a C shape to anyone, turned 20 and got nose surgery, and oh my gosh, it turned out so pretty My dad, who until before the surgery hated the idea of putting a knife to a perfectly fine face, said after seeing how much prettier it looked that he should have let me fix my collapsed nose sooner Because COVID delayed the start of the semester and classes were online, I ended up getting my eyes revised while they were already loosening up. Since I was already having eye revision surgery, I got nose surgery too.

When the splint first came off, I was shocked because my nose looked so long. Especially because I had thought my nose was extremely short until then, but once the space between my eyebrows was created, its length was about the same as other people’s!! It was so strange, and I was like, I finally have a bridge between my eyebrows now! Bye, nose

Usually other people get about 3 mm added to the bridge between the eyebrows, but mine was so lacking that they said they brought it up by a full 4 mm Still, compared to me, the bridge area doesn’t feel burdensome, probably because my eyes and cheekbones protrude so much.

My protruding mouth and big cheekbones became much less noticeable now that the tip of the nose was lifted, to the point that I wondered if this was really the same thing I had been hiding and stressing over all this time I really understood why people say the nose is important

Actually, it seems the director wanted to raise the height even more, but since my nose volume was so small, the skin area was limited, and my skin is hard and doesn’t stretch well, they said my skin tends to want to return to its original state. So I think they raised it less by their standards When the splint came off and I went in for a follow-up at week 1, they still seemed a little disappointed, saying the tip was still rounded No, director, you have very strong preferences

But my nose was really so small to begin with that I was afraid of making it too high and ending up with 11-shaped nostrils, so I had told them not to raise it too aggressively and to make it only as natural as possible I thought it would just be raised to the normal amount other people have, but it ended up much higher than I expected, and to my eyes it looks so awkward... (To be honest, it isn’t exactly 11-shaped, but it does kind of become 8-shaped nostrils) Just how high did the director want to raise my nose

I also had eye surgery done, so every time I looked in the mirror I wondered who this even was, and from then on I started searching because I got a little anxious search first, surgery later (Of course, my family and friends saw me at week 1 with yellow bruising and plenty of swelling and still said it looked natural and pretty. My father especially was really happy, saying he should have fixed my collapsed nose sooner)

If I list the surgeries I had: First, silicon from the bridge between the eyebrows to the nasal bridge line. The spread-out outer part of the upper alar area was moved inward through osteotomy. Because it was a low nose, leaving only the bridge high would have looked awkward, so for overall height they used the basic septum. When planning the surgery, as I wrote above, my skin was hard and didn’t stretch well, and my septum was small and lacked strength, so they said they added donated rib cartilage to the septum. They finished the tip by inserting ear cartilage above and below.

But now that I was searching, things started catching my eye The first things I noticed were asymmetry and cartilage visibility

My nostrils were already a bit uneven, but after surgery it felt like the difference was gradually getting bigger than before... At first the swelling actually made it less noticeable, but as time went on, I started feeling like the tip was not centered, but slightly shifted to one side.

My mother had nose surgery in her early 20s and since then it had never seemed strange even once, and among people I knew, there were revisions because they didn’t like the shape after nose surgery, but I had never heard of side effects before So I thought nose surgery was just like eye surgery, something like, I just stopped by after work and got my nose done... until now

But there are so many side effects, from inflammation to collapse and contracture, that people are suffering through huge problems. All I keep seeing is that nose surgery has the highest revision rate or is one of the hardest surgeries, and my own nasal tip feels like the cartilage isn’t centered and is gradually drifting to one side Everyone’s case is different, of course, but maybe there were just a lot of lucky people around me

I went for a week-2 consultation on day 16 after surgery, and by then the swelling had gone down a lot, so a boundary between the nasal ala and the bridge? appeared, and the tip shape became visible. Since my nostril sizes were originally a bit uneven, I started thinking maybe the difference wasn’t just from uneven swelling, but because the tip cartilage was slightly shifted toward the smaller nostril rather than sitting in the center

The larger nostril felt soft when I lightly touched toward the tip direction, but the smaller nostril had something hard that could be felt starting right above the nostril when I touched it That was what made the nostril sizes look even more different.

At the week-2 consultation, when I asked the director, they lightly touched it and said they weren’t sure, but it was fine, the surgery went well, and it was pretty. But maybe because I’m so anxious, I don’t feel relieved at all and instead I’m getting even more confused

And during the consultation, there was still a black stitch on the smaller nostril side that I couldn’t see because of a scab, so I removed it... That’s why I don’t know even more whether the swelling went down unevenly because the stitch removal timing differed on each side, or whether the tip cartilage really shifted...

For now I have no choice but to get through the weekdays and then book another consultation for the weekend to ask the director again... If the cartilage really did rotate and I end up needing revision surgery, I’m so worried and anxious that if they undo what was securely tied in the first surgery and move it, there might be even worse asymmetry later or some bigger side effect...

It’s much higher than the nose I expected, but so what if the nostrils are 8-shaped? I finally have the nasal bridge between my eyebrows I dreamed of, my face shape looks better, and ahhh everyone, my nose is so pretty, right I’m so happy, and almost everything except the tip is turning into something I like, so if touching it again could ruin it, would it be better in this situation to just accept that I got a nose I didn’t have before and live with it????? Am I just being too sensitive and scaring myself for no reason

Right now, just by looking, the side profile is very pretty and the nostril difference is only visible if you look quite closely, but when I take photos, the difference shows really clearly. The most protruding part of the nose goes straight up to the bridge, but only the tip is suddenly twisted to one side I don’t know if it’s just how I feel, but it seems like it gets worse as the swelling goes down

I looked it up and some people say early correction is important before tissues adhere, while others say frequent surgery is bad and it’s better to wait until after 6 months And somewhere else it said that if a nose that had osteotomy gets revision surgery, there’s a chance of collapse, oh my goodness

I’ve been getting more and more anxious day by day, so even when I sleep I keep waking up after an hour or two, then I get anxious and search the internet again, and it just keeps repeating. I kept telling my family how scary it was, couldn’t sleep at night, wandered around, and we even fought because they asked why I was making myself uncomfortable with worries I didn’t need after the surgery had gone well It feels like I should be thinking positively because that would probably be good for my body too, but at this rate I’ll develop a disease that didn’t even exist before

If it’s because of stitches or swelling, I hope this hard bump right above the nostril goes away quickly and becomes straight again I’m desperately hoping that’s the case... I’ve been stressed and insecure about this my whole life, and having a new nose made my face shape look improved, so I’m happy, but because I’m so happy I’m also worried it might end as a midsummer night’s dream

I keep teasing my younger brother for having a C-shaped nose, and then as soon as he turned 20 and said he didn’t want to, my mother and I dragged him in and got him nose surgery, and that keeps weighing on my mind I keep being afraid that something might go wrong later for no reason My younger brother had the same surgery as me except for donated rib cartilage, and I just hope that, like our mother’s constitution, we can both stay healthy all our lives and live with pretty noses...

I did the dumbest thing in the world by having surgery first and searching later without any information, and I even got my brother to have surgery with no knowledge either, so now I’m trembling, but I hope many other people here make wise consultations and decisions about surgery, and live beautifully and healthily in both body and mind. Information really is power for humans
