1-Year Review of Non-Implant, Closed Surgery for a Hump Nose

I had surgery last April, so it’s already been 1 year and 3 months. Looking back, after having surgery on my hump nose, which had been a lifelong source of stress, I feel mentally free too. I used to get stressed even when someone just looked at me from the side, and even when people complimented me by saying my nose was high, I felt upset. That’s how low my confidence was ㅠ Now, how should I put it, I don’t even think about my nose at all anymore ㅋㅋㅋ I’m writing for the first time in a while because I want to recommend it to people who are living with stress like I did.

My nasal bridge was thin and high, so I didn’t have osteotomy and had it shaved down instead. For the nasal tip, I had cartilage repositioning, so nothing was inserted and the surgery was done only with my own nose. Since correcting my complex was my top priority rather than a flashy style, I mainly looked for a place that would do it naturally without implants! And although it wasn’t severe, I also had rhinitis, so I looked for a place where I could also have deviated septum surgery at the same time. (The deviated septum part could also be covered by indemnity insurance.)

The place where I had surgery wasn’t a large hospital, but because of that, they provided 1:1 care, which felt reassuring and was really nice. It was a place where the doctor personally handled everything, from the surgery to the postoperative treatment. (After surgery, the hardest part for me was having my nose blocked with cotton, so I came home and called the doctor saying I felt dizzy ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Thinking about it now, it’s funny, but back then I thought it was serious.. ㅠㅋㅋ I don’t think there are many hospitals where you can contact the doctor directly if something happens, but I liked that they paid attention to every detail.)

These days, there seem to be a lot of proxy surgeries? so I got really scared while looking into surgery. My precious nose ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I couldn’t just entrust it carelessly to someone who wasn’t even a specialist... ㅠㅠㅋㅋㅋ The hospital I went to did it completely without sedation, so I could even talk with the doctor during the surgery. It was really nice not having to worry about the doctor being switched.....

Music played during the surgery and it was done in a comfortable atmosphere, and oh, what I liked most was that before suturing? (when most of the hump had been shaved down?) they let my guardian come into the operating room so we could look at the shape of my nose together. So I actually said, “Please shave this part a little more..” and they did it.ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ And since my guardian looked with me, I could see it more objectively too!

Oh, and I’m an office worker, so I took 6 days off from work, and including the weekend, I rested for 10 days before going back to work. After removing the splint, I had yellow bruising, so I covered it with concealer, but maybe my bruising faded pretty quickly.... Except for the people I had told in advance that I was having surgery, no one noticed ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Everyone said it looked so natural and that they couldn’t tell I had anything doneㅎㅎㅎ Even now, if I don’t tell friends I haven’t seen in a while, they have no idea. That was exactly the reaction I wanted, so I was extremely satisfied. And people with hump noses will know when taking photos. It shows not only from the side but also from the front ㅠㅠ But now even from the front, my nose looks smooth, so I’ve gained confidence. I should’ve done it a little earlier ㅎㅎ If you want natural-looking hump nose surgery, I’d like to recommend it!

Below are the before-surgery photos.
