16 years ago, a friend had protruding-mouth surgery, and she became so pretty and was also living comfortably in terms of function. I had always had temporomandibular joint problems, so I couldn’t open my mouth wide and had pain, so I also started thinking about whether I should have surgery. Because I opened my mouth with my face slightly shifting in order to open it comfortably, I also had asymmetry toward the right side. I couldn’t open my mouth wide, only about one finger’s width, and from the outside it didn’t look like there was a problem, but chewing was uncomfortable. Since it had become a habit, I wondered if I should just live with it, but these small daily-life inconveniences became a major stress in my life. Seeing my friend’s surgery felt like it made something that had been festering finally burst, and I couldn’t eat as much as I wanted and was starting to feel depressed, so before it got too late, I decided to get surgery too. I had had chin-tip surgery somewhere else a long time ago because I wanted to become prettier, and while getting revision chin-tip surgery, I also ended up getting two-jaw surgery for asymmetry, square jaw surgery, and long-curve surgery. It’s been one month since surgery, so I’m posting a full summary partly as a record. Since I was getting surgery anyway, the functional issue was the biggest, but I also wanted to become prettier cosmetically, so I went for consultations at two places famous for two-jaw surgery and facial contouring~ For facial bone surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery was also highly recommended, so I went to both an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic and a plastic surgery clinic, and one of them was where my friend had her surgery. I specifically requested the person who did my friend’s surgery for the consultation, and from the consultation itself and from watching my friend from the side, I was inevitably drawn to the place where my friend had surgery. They said that for my mouth condition, two-jaw surgery was the best option, and the most important first priority was that I needed to be able to live comfortably. Second, they said that since I was getting surgery anyway, they would also pay attention to the aesthetic aspect and operate well without creating a sunken, toothless-looking mouth. We decided to proceed with surgery first and orthodontic treatment afterward, and they said that doing surgery first would make recovery faster and shorten the overall time. I had taken notes on what I was told during the consultation so I could look back after surgery, and I think I was able to receive surgery just as the director said. Even after surgery, I didn’t have much swelling. After the surgery and discharge, my condition was low, my body felt cold, and everything was hectic, but afterward I started care with compresses and so on. I began feeling tingling, and it was hard to open my mouth, so I couldn’t eat anything. I think I lost weight too. Other things were difficult, but to manage swelling, I went out for walks right away and consistently wore the compression band. I also went to the hospital once a week for dental treatment. While receiving dental treatment, they also managed my swelling, so I felt the aftercare was good. Because they took good care of me afterward, even though it had only been one week, I recovered quickly, and everyone said it seemed like I had no swelling. There was no bruising or swelling, and the feeling when opening my mouth was definitely different from before surgery. I think that was when I really felt it: I really did have surgery.. I had been focused only on recovery, then it felt like I realized it. Because there was no swelling, I could check the facial line and that there wasn’t that characteristic mouth shape, which was good. Now, more than anything else after surgery, it’s so amazing that I don’t have temporomandibular joint pain. People who haven’t experienced it may not know and may think it isn’t a big problem, but the jaw muscles themselves hurt so much and feel so fatigued, so I’m glad those issues disappeared. There is no inward rolling of the mouth, and although I still can’t open my mouth very wide, about two fingers can fit now. I’m happy because my mouth opening and pain are actually better than before surgery~ To commemorate one month, I’m writing down everything I’ve felt so far before I go. While looking through my album now, I’ll also upload a photo I took at week 2. These days, other than walking, I haven’t been able to go outside to hang out, so I haven’t taken many selfies. I want the weather to get better quickly so I can go out and have fun a lot. Next time I go out and take selfies, I’ll upload them again too. Until the stable period at 6 months to 1 year, I plan to keep going to the hospital, keep taking care of myself, and be careful not to bump my face anywhere. I’ll organize and post another review next time too. Please cheer me on so I can keep recovering well~
