I feel like there are still so many people who think too lightly about canthoplasty and go ahead with surgery, so I wanted to personally bring out and show photos from when my canthoplasty went wrong. Like other people, I got posterior and lower canthoplasty simply thinking, <I want to make my eyes bigger>. But maybe it was opened without much thought, and it ended up going wrong, even causing entropion. There seem to be lots of reviews about epicanthoplasty revision, but not many about lower canthoplasty revision, so I’m writing this review in the hope that it helps anyone here who has the same concern as me.
As you can tell from the photo of me opening my eyes wide before the revision surgery, my lower eyelashes were curling inward more and more day by day, and because those lashes kept poking my eye, they would stab my eye constantly and make tears stream down.. It was bad enough to interfere with daily life;;
It was just something I did because I wanted bigger eyes and wanted to look prettier, so I was really upset that it turned out like this. These days, a lot of people react like, “Eye surgery isn’t even real surgery~,” and I also took it way too lightly, and I think that mindset eventually led to this kind of side effect..
Anyway, I couldn’t keep living like this, so while searching through entropion surgery reviews, I found a hospital that specializes in eyes and also handles many difficult revision surgeries like restorations, so I ended up deciding to have surgery there. Since I’m from outside Seoul, I asked by phone whether same-day surgery was possible, then went in right away, and from arriving at the hospital to recovery it took about 3 hours and 20 minutes total. (They said the surgery itself took 40 minutes.)
I actually know entropion is often treated more at ophthalmology clinics than plastic surgery clinics, but I couldn’t give up on the aesthetic aspect either, so I got it done at a plastic surgery clinic. As soon as the director looked at my eyes, he said the severely rolled-in lower canthoplasty area needed to be loosened slightly, and I liked that he set the direction while respecting my opinion as much as possible: maintaining the canthoplasty as much as possible while correcting only the eye shape and entropion.
Right after surgery, I had slight eye stinging, but after taking the prescribed medication it got better, and by week 1, other than slight redness under the eyes, I don’t think there was any major discomfort! I had heard things like, “If you do entropion correction and lower canthoplasty revision together, your aegyo-sal disappears~,” but hmm..... I think that also depends entirely on skill? I didn’t lose anything at all, and more than 80% of my lower eyelashes are still intact. It feels like everything is pretty much the same.
The revision surgery marks are gradually fading too, and the hospital said it should be okay if I keep up with scar care consistently, so I’m not going to stress about it anymore and plan to manage it well. Honestly, since the overly opened part is gone, my eyes themselves are smaller than before, but people around me also say they look much better aesthetically and more natural. There’s no guarantee that every canthoplasty will be successful, so I really hope everyone looks into it carefully before getting surgery.
For the last photo, I put the before and after together so the difference would be clear. Even if you do decide to have surgery, I hope you go to a director who specializes in eyes and has many surgical cases. After lower canthoplasty revision, even smiling with my eyes doesn’t look awkward anymore, which is nice.. I really hope everyone’s cosmetic surgery goes only toward success!
