17-month review of ㅁㅇㅁㄷㄱ ㅅㅍㅌ cheekbone reduction

Hello, this is a review written 17 months after having ㅅㅍㅌ cheekbone reduction at ㅁㅇㅁㄷㄱ Plastic Surgery. Originally I was not going to write it because it was a hassle, but I had some time and thought it might help people considering other cheekbone reduction procedures, so I ended up writing this.

First of all, my lateral cheekbones themselves were not very developed, but my 45-degree cheekbones were very developed, and I disliked how that made my face look flat and two-dimensional. So I started considering cheekbone reduction. The problem was that I heard cheekbone reduction causes cheek sagging, so I fell into a dilemma and searched the internet hard, looking up information about the correlation between cheekbone reduction and cheek sagging.

While doing that, I heard in a community that ㅅㅍㅌ cheekbone reduction at ㅁㅇㅁㄷㄱ Plastic Surgery does not cause cheek sagging, so I decided to have surgery. Of course, it could have been viral marketing by a plastic surgery clinic, and I also could not trust information on the internet 100%, but whether I had plastic surgery or not, I would always be stuck in a dilemma thinking about it, and I thought it would be better to do it and regret it than not do it and keep lingering regrets. So I decided on surgery.

First, I visited the plastic surgery clinic and heard from the doctor about how the surgery is performed. With the ㅅㅍㅌ cheekbone method, instead of going through the mouth or scalp, they directly incise the skin surface above the cheekbone, approach the cheekbone, and perform the surgery. So compared with other methods, it can minimize damage to various connective tissues during the dissection process, which is why it can prevent cheek sagging, according to the doctor. Since I am not a doctor, I will move on from that...

Anyway, the doctor was kind during the consultation, and said that my cheekbones were not that large, so he did not recommend cheekbone reduction. But I had already gone through a lot of hardship working part-time during university vacation to save about 5 million won for cheekbone reduction, so I thought there was no turning back and proceeded with it. (For reference, the surgery cost was 3 million won.)

So I had the surgery on December 26, 2018. It was the first surgery of my life, but it was not particularly painful or scary. I also did not have any issues like not being able to open my jaw or abnormal sensation.

After coming home, since it was university spring break, I stayed home and focused only on reducing the swelling. Of course, to avoid irritating the cheekbones, I did not eat foods that required chewing for 2 weeks. I remember wanting chicken in the middle of that, buying chicken and blending it to eat it. (For reference, blended chicken does not taste good.) I did not experience other side effects, but I had severe bruising around my eyes, and blood pooled red in the whites of my eyes, so the outer parts of the whites of both eyes were stained red like a vampire. It took longer than I expected for that to go away.

And of course my face swelled a lot. The major swelling went down in about 2 weeks? Around that long, but it took about 3 months for even the minor swelling to go down. Before all the minor swelling was gone, my face actually looked much uglier, and I felt pointlessly depressed wondering if I should not have had surgery. I also got confused about whether this was minor swelling or the cheek sagging I had only heard about. Still, if you wait patiently, I think you will be satisfied with cheekbones that are definitely reduced compared with before.

First, in conclusion, I will talk about the results and side effects that everyone is probably most curious about.

1. Results

First of all, I think it is hard to get a dramatic celebrity-like doll line just because you had cheekbone reduction. In my case, as I said, my 45-degree cheekbones were developed, and through the surgery I did see results in both my 45-degree cheekbones and lateral cheekbones. However, the cheekbone reduction was not achieved to the ideal level I had hoped for, so depending on the angle or lighting, I still sometimes feel my face looks broad. (In any case, it means my face is not narrow and small like a celebrity's.) But if the effect I wanted from cheekbone reduction was 10, I think I saw about a 6 to 7 level of effect. People around me would not notice I had plastic surgery unless I told them, but every time I looked in the mirror myself, I felt my face had changed a lot. And when I actually look at my face before surgery, it makes me think, I was this unattractive... Of course, I do think it might have been nice if the 45-degree cheekbones had been reduced a bit more... but I am sufficiently satisfied with this much.

2. Side effects

First, some people may worry that because the skin above the cheekbone is dissected during surgery, scars may remain. In my case, no scars remained at all. And I did not have any particular side effects, but I did get a little cheek sagging. However, even before surgery, maybe because my skin lacked elasticity, I had some congenital cheek sagging since I was young. After surgery, this became a bit worse, so when light shines from above my face, I can notice some jowly bulging beside my mouth. But I do not think it is bothersome to a major degree.

3. Conclusion

In conclusion, if you asked me whether I would have surgery again if I went back to before surgery, I would have it again. There was a little cheek sagging, but I still think it is better than having large cheekbones. Before having plastic surgery, I hope everyone thinks carefully about what is bigger between what you gain and what you lose through surgery, makes a careful decision, and gets a result you are satisfied with.
