Originally, I was going to finish non-extraction orthodontic treatment around January this year, live with it for a while, and get double-jaw surgery when I had time. (All oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics say my occlusion is good, so even if I remove the braces, I won’t need re-orthodontic treatment when getting double-jaw surgery.)
The orthodontic director told me to just keep them on and get surgery, so I’m having surgery after keeping them on for a little under a year longer. (They said even if everything is tied well for surgery, the occlusion may change a little + since it was non-extraction, there wasn’t a big change in angle, but they said having the teeth slightly flared would be good after surgery, so they made them slightly flared.)
The orthodontic clinic said they couldn’t do the surgery unless it was with Hwang Soon-jung or Naeso, so I decided on Naeso. (As you know, Hwang Soon-jung is outrageously expensive.)
I had gone early this year and then went again, so the questions were brief. When I said I came back after earning some money, they readily said let’s do it, and I only did Q&A before leaving.
For the preoperative tests, I went with my mother. The overall framework of the surgery is the same at all hospitals, including Naeso, but when I said the amount of maxillary impaction and the amount of contouring resection seemed a bit different from hospitals that do a lot of cosmetic double-jaw surgery, they said that if too much is shaved, the skin can sag and I myself may be surprised by the changed face. They said if I want, they can raise and shave up to the amount that can be done.
For the details, we decided to discuss mutual customization after the X-ray and CT test results come out, and I’m satisfied.
Regarding the change, they said that because I don’t have a problem like a protruding mandible, a dramatic change won’t be easy, and I should think of it as overall improvement of mild protrusion + resolving too much upper tooth show at rest + making a long and large face smaller + softening the face.
