One-Month Review After Surgery for Protruding Cheekbones

For a really, really long time, I was stressed because my cheekbones protruded, but I was scared of the idea of touching the bones, so I couldn’t even think about surgery. Then when taking photos, my face looked bigger because of my cheekbones and the hollowness in my cheeks looked severe, so I decided to have surgery and looked up cosmetic surgery reviews.  While doing that, I found a hospital called Yungwakui Jeongseok, and after seeing various reviews, the fact that it is a one-doctor facial contouring hospital, and the surgical background of Director Oh Jeong, who has a lot of experience in facial bone reconstruction at a university hospital, I decided to have a consultation. At the hospital, after taking a CT scan, the consultant first kindly explained things to me, and then I had a detailed consultation with the director while looking at the CT images about how the surgery would be done. There was no overtreatment at all, and the price stayed the same with no extra charges, so I booked the surgery right away that day. On the first day of surgery, I was very worried because it was sedation anesthesia, but when I opened my eyes the surgery was already over. My throat didn’t hurt and I didn’t feel nauseous at all. Other than feeling cold while waking up from anesthesia, it was okay. On the first day, the throbbing made it uncomfortable to sleep for about a day, but from the second day on, that went away and I slept well.

Until day 3 after surgery, I was really very swollen and couldn’t open my mouth, so I only had drinks, and after that I ate soft foods like porridge or steamed eggs.  I used mouthwash often, walked for more than an hour a day, did warm/cold compresses.. and when sleeping, I raised my pillow and slept propped up, so from day 4-5 the swelling started to go down a lot. From then on, the bruising on my cheek area became darker, and I think it took about 3 weeks to disappear completely.  At week 1, they removed the stitches under the ears and it didn’t hurt. At week 2, they removed the intraoral stitches, and maybe because they had changed to dissolvable sutures, I could only feel it and it didn’t hurt at all, which was surprising. Also, the nurses here treated me so kindly, which was nice. After removing the intraoral stitches, it was definitely much more comfortable when speaking, eating, and brushing my teeth. Now I’m one month post-op, and except for hard foods, if I eat carefully I can eat almost all the foods I usually eat, so I don’t think there’s any major discomfort. I still have a stiff feeling around the cheekbones, some firmness at the intraoral surgical site, and candy-like swelling in my cheeks, but when I touch my face where the cheekbones are gone, I’m satisfied, so I’m trying not to stress too much and just wait. They say residual swelling can continue to go down for up to 6 months, so I hope time passes quickly. I’m satisfied with the surgery, so if there are people who, like me, are worried because of their cheekbones, I hope you at least get a consultation^^
