For my mom’s birthday gifts over the years, I had already given her pretty much everything reasonable I could think of, so while wondering what to do for her this year, I got her a facelift. Actually, for about 2-3 years I had only been searching for information and thinking about it, but I kept putting it off because I was worried it might be risky since it is surgery. Then I happened to see Aiting’s mother-in-law lifting video on YouTube.
It was about a plastic surgeon son-in-law personally performing a facelift on his mother-in-law, and I was amazed by how naturally and dramatically younger she looked.. I dug a bit more into the YouTube channel and saw there was also a video where he personally operated on his own mother, so just the fact that he operated on his own family made my trust go way up. I showed the videos to my mom too, and I think the two of us watched them about ten times together.
My mom, who normally had no interest at all in procedures like this, seemed to be moved after watching the mother-in-law lifting video, so she made up her mind and booked an appointment.
On the consultation day, I went to Apgujeong with my mom for the first time in a while, and it really felt like every plastic surgery clinic in the world had been gathered there? My mom had lived overseas for a long time too, so it had been a while since she had been to Apgujeong, and she seemed surprised that everything was a plastic surgery clinic. The hospital was right in front of Apgujeong Station, so it was easy to find. As soon as we entered, it had a hotel spa-like feel, with clean interior design and a nice atmosphere, and even small props and supplies looked carefully chosen, so it gave a feeling of being treated well? which I liked. Both my mom and I were nervous in an unfamiliar environment, but while we filled out the preliminary questionnaire in advance and waited, the staff responded comfortably, so our nerves eased.
Before the director’s consultation, there was a consultation with the manager, and I liked that she did not mention the surgical details. I heard that at other places, managers talk like doctors, but at Aiting, from beginning to end, the consultation was conducted by the director, so I trusted them a lot.
We met Director Kim Jong-gyu and were able to hear directly about the surgical method, stages of recovery, and precautions before and after surgery, and we had plenty of time to ask every question we wanted. And just as I had read in the reviews, his style is really to point out only the parts that are absolutely necessary. I heard there are doctors who say even surgeries that should not be done are all possible and then schedule surgery, but his confident explanation of what is possible and what is not was impressive. The clean, no-frills consultation made me trust him immediately, so we scheduled the surgery date right away, listened to the preoperative precautions, and left.
My mom lives abroad and I work in Jeju Island, so I was most worried about where my mom would stay. The hospital helped us book an affiliated hotel where overseas patients can stay when they come, so I was able to worry less. On the day of surgery, she kept the fasting time properly and went with only the hat and mask she needed to prepare. I could not accompany her that day because of work, but even so, the manager and staff took great care of my mom and updated me by text from time to time, so I could feel reassured. Their updates throughout the surgery process also showed how attentive they were. It was almost nighttime when I got the message that the surgery had finished, and when I talked to my mom on KakaoTalk, she said she had little pain and was completely fine except for the feeling of her skin being pulled and slight stuffiness where the bandages were wrapped, so I felt relieved.
The day after surgery, she took photos and sent them to me. There was less swelling than I expected, her wrinkles were really stretched out smoothly, and she had the facial impression I had seen in old photos from when my mom was in her 30s and 40s, so I was surprised. If anything, the bruising and swelling seemed worse on days 2-3. Since the incision was around the ear, she managed it by diligently applying the necessary care products they had given her, such as disinfectant ointment. Maybe because my mom usually takes good care of detox management, her recovery was faster than I expected. Whenever we had questions or reached a point where care was needed, the hospital guided us carefully, and when I asked the manager or team leader questions by text in between, they replied immediately every time, so I felt really at ease. The postoperative aftercare was thorough, so my mom also recovered well with peace of mind.
My mom has a face with little facial fat, so she also had fat grafting done together. At first, maybe because the areas with fat grafting made her face look a bit awkward, she kept taking photos and sending them to me every day, worrying about how she could board a plane when her face looked different from her passport photo.. Each time, I told her that later she would probably say she should have had more fat put in, and sure enough, after all the swelling went down and her facial lines settled, she looked at her face and said she wished it would not lose any more volume and that she should have added a bit more. She completely forgot how she used to send me KakaoTalk messages every day worrying that her face looked different from her passport photo, and now she has gone back overseas, where apparently her friends and neighborhood are making a huge fuss. She looks so much younger that the reactions are no joke, and she says that next time she comes to Korea, she might bring a few foreign friends with her to get surgery too.
Anyway, there are so many places doing lifting these days, but I still think you should receive it from a skilled doctor who is good enough to operate directly on their own family. I am also thinking of getting a mini lifting sometime around next year before I reach my 40s. Next time, I will share my own review.
