2 Years After Double Jaw Surgery for Asymmetry and Protruding Mouth

Before <before surgery, asymmetry and peanut-shaped face from orthodontics> After <2 years later, finishing orthodontics> <<protruding mouth + asymmetry> asymmetry + protruding mouth + long retruded chin

There had been a sound from my temporomandibular joint. I went to a dental clinic intending to do only partial orthodontics, but they said it was not good functionally and I was professionally recommended double jaw surgery at an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic. It was a different hospital, but the design felt like it would make my mouth look too collapsed, so I came back.. I went home and searched hard through an online orthodontic community and found my current hospital. When I saw friends who had undergone surgery only for severe prognathism or only mandibular surgery at university hospitals, it looked safe but did not have an aesthetic feel, so I took a risk;; The cost was also a burden ㅠㅠ

The hospital I went to had two directors, and what was unusual was that they were similarly popular. I debated and ended up doing it with the director whose timing worked between the two. His tone was gentle, but he was subtly direct, and I could feel he had a sense of design, so I chose him.

I looked up the surgical method on the website before going, had a CT taken, and consulted while looking in the mirror with a bone model and photos. Looking at the plaster model made from my dental impressions, he explained the current degree of deviation, overall balance, and how much my upper lip was expected to change if the protruding mouth was set back, and said he would tie the tissues to prevent nasal widening. As for skin sagging, he honestly told me in advance that I already had a double chin, and once the bone volume decreased after surgery it would become more noticeable, so I would need lifting afterward. Also, he showed confidence, saying that double jaw surgeons usually have a lot of experience with prognathism but less experience with retruded chins, and that I had come to the right place lol, so I trusted him more.

Staff kindness:

The front desk staff were generally kind and accommodating. There was a resident anesthesiologist, and after surgery, three staff members supported me. I was so cold I felt like I might die, but they said if it was dry my mouth would feel tight, so they warmed only inside the blanket with a heater. The recovery room nurse said I could not drink water because I had to spit out gas? after anesthesia, but my throat felt like it was burning, so I begged them to save me.. At dawn, my nostrils were blocked and I felt suffocated, so I asked for suction.. The bed was hard and my butt hurt, so I asked whether the bed could be changed, etc. Since I could not speak, I wrote on a whiteboard and acted like a difficult patient, but they treated me kindly, so I was very grateful ㅠㅠ

They said they rotated the double jaw surgery front-back and left-right for asymmetry and fractured the necessary parts, and that one side of my face was longer so they cut it. I looked like a pineapple wrapped in a blood-stained bandage.

The hospital is known for not using blood drains, but I had blood drains ㅠㅠ It did not hurt at all, but breathing was uncomfortable, so after asking, I used the cotton swabs I had brought with saline to remove only the blood clots in my nostrils.

New Care tasted better than I expected, and when I saw other patients walking for exercise at the hospital, I slowly walked around at night and also went to the bathroom by myself.

Each bed had a personal TV, so I endured well while watching dramas I had fallen behind on. When stitches were removed and when rubber bands were hooked onto screws embedded near the surgical site, tears streamed down my face, but aside from those times, it was manageable.

Before surgery, I was afraid of side effects, so I told them that as long as it was harmonious, even a square jaw and retruded chin could look natural and refined, and asked them to set it back only slightly so my wide cheekbone-area flesh would not sag. I only hoped for functional improvement and no side effects.

But now I regret not setting it back smoothly and dramatically ㅠㅠ lol

For my chin, I was afraid of a double chin from postoperative sagging, so I mentioned a protruding chin like Irene's, and the director said he understood, moderately and not like a witch, and somehow understood exactly and operated accordingly ㅠㅠ Extremely satisfied.

If I do not say I had surgery, everyone thinks I only had procedures and orthodontics.

For aftercare, I had 1 cc of upper-lip filler and Shurink twice.

The second Shurink was done without anesthesia because of breastfeeding. Tears streamed down, but I endured it. I do not know if I became tough from going through double jaw surgery and childbirth, or if my skin sensation weakened because of the surgery, but I do feel sensation without any disruption to daily life.

As time passes, the memories of how scary and uncomfortable the swelling and nasal congestion were right after surgery have all become hazy ;;;; My parents were upset at first, but now that there are no side effects, they said I did well, and when I see about 6 titanium pins on the X-ray, even I find it scary, but my bone shape looks pretty like a chestnut, so I feel proud;; Even if I went back to before surgery, I would really do it again ㅠㅠ

When brushing my teeth, I really like that my dental midline is aligned, my protruding teeth have been corrected, and the space that used to open between my upper and lower teeth has been filled.

ㅠㅠ On top of that, cosmetically, when I take photos, I am satisfied that my chin is shorter in proportion, and my sharp impression has become softer.

Ah, I am still in the middle of implant treatment for one molar, so it is missing, and because I chewed on one side, lately it feels like I am becoming asymmetrical again. I am being careful and chewing on both sides again ㅠㅠ

For those considering surgery, please use this as a reference. I think this much may mean I was lucky ㅠㅠ I hope everyone researches thoroughly and has good results!!!!
