Breast Autologous Fat Grafting Side Effect Review and Essential Things to Check

I thought it would be hard to live alone after breast fat grafting, so I ended up having surgery in my hometown, outside Seoul. It was a long time ago, so I don’t remember the hospital name, but even 6 years later, I’m still suffering from aftereffects, so I wanted to share this with anyone considering breast fat grafting.

First of all, I was an AAA cup, so I wasn’t hoping for anything huge. I thought I’d be happy even with just a full A cup.

Even several weeks after surgery, my breasts were hard and painful, and as some kind of “aftercare service,” I kept getting something like a radiofrequency machine treatment once a week. Other people apparently got it about three or four times, but I was told to keep coming until it loosened up, so I think I went for two or three months. On the days I got the radiofrequency treatment, it did feel like things loosened a bit.

After it seemed to have gotten somewhat better, I returned to Seoul, and while I was busy with daily life, at some point I started feeling a large lump in one breast. It gradually swelled up, and like a mass had formed, it was visibly red and protruding. The pain became so severe that I went back down to the hospital, and then, well... the doctor wasn’t there anymore, and the doctor had changed. (It was a one-doctor clinic.)

The new doctor said that among people who had received surgery from the previous doctor, a lot were coming in with side effects like this, and said he would do revision surgery for me. But when treatment was the priority, revision surgery...? How could I trust that...

In the end, I went to a well-known breast surgery clinic in Seoul for testing, and both sides had inflammation. The side that had swollen up like a lump was especially severe, and they said I needed surgery immediately... After a CT scan, they said the fat had failed to adhere and was floating around in clumps, so with a Mammotome procedure, they would need to remove all the inflamed fat.

After local anesthesia, they dug into both breasts, and wow... it hurt so much that I honestly thought I might die. I screamed during the surgery and it was a mess. They added more anesthesia midway, but it still hurt so much ㅠㅠ It was pain I never want to experience again...ㅠㅠ The doctor said the inflammation was severe, so the pain must have been severe too..

Several years have passed since the Mammotome procedure, but even during intimacy, I don’t let my spouse touch my breasts. They hurt if touched even a little firmly. The Mammotome procedure was done through the inframammary incision area where I had the fat grafting done, and that scar doesn’t go away either...

It was truly such a difficult and painful experience that I don’t plan on ever having breast surgery again.

If you’re considering breast surgery with fat grafting, please make sure to check these things.

1. For the hospital, absolutely choose a director with extensive experience, and make sure they are a board-certified plastic surgeon through “Plastic Surgery Korea.” 2. Rather than someone who operates on all kinds of areas, look for a director who has specialized in one field for a long time. (YouTube videos and news article interviews are all advertisements. It is more important whether they have research achievements such as related papers or academic society activity.) 3. Make sure to leave aftercare details, especially how side effects will be handled, in a written contract in advance. (Free revision surgery, full refund, etc.) 4. Things like the consultation manager’s personality, hospital interior, and waiting time are secondary. More than anything, the most important thing is making my breasts safely without side effects. 5. If you suspect any side effects after surgery, be sure to get examined at a breast specialist surgery clinic other than the hospital where you had the surgery. (Even if the hospital where you had surgery says they’ll do revision surgery, don’t accept it right away. First get an accurate diagnosis from a breast specialist surgery clinic. Like me, it may be a case where treatment is needed rather than revision surgery.)

I ended up writing at length while sharing a breast fat grafting side effect review that I couldn’t talk about anywhere else.

I hope many people can use my experience as a reference and make a choice they won’t regret. If you have any questions, please leave a comment, and I’ll tell you everything I know:)
