Clinic opinion Hello. I am Director Han Sang-hyuk of Gangnam Laren Clinic. You are currently being seen at our clinic for suspected Botox resistance.
First, I apologize for the frustration you may have felt because we could not give you precise feedback about resistance. However, I would like to explain that in the current medical situation in Korea, it is difficult to provide precise feedback about resistance. After your procedure, between 2 and a half to 3 months, we would have asked you to visit our clinic for evaluation of the effect. If you visit, I think we can explain Botox resistance to you in more detail.
There are about two methods to determine whether Botox resistance is present. One is directly testing for Botox antibodies, and the other is injecting Botox into a facial area where it is easy to evaluate the Botox effect.
Botox antibody testing is generally rarely performed. As far as I know, there is still no place where the general public can receive antibody testing.
Therefore, we use the method of performing glabellar Botox, which is the easiest to assess, and evaluating the effect at around 3 weeks. I understand that most general clinics usually do not take special measures to confirm resistance, but it appears that glabellar Botox was provided to confirm resistance.
Please understand that this is based on memory, so it may not be certain.
Botox resistance can be divided into complete resistance and partial resistance. Because the strength of the glabellar muscles appeared weaker than usual, I think we judged that it might be partial resistance rather than complete resistance.
If it is partial resistance, we judge that this may be a better situation than complete resistance. This is because in the case of complete resistance, difficult procedures such as nerve block procedures are needed, and if side effects occur, they are not comparable to Botox.
Even in cases of partial resistance, confirmation is necessary. If the effect is ambiguous, the treatment direction also has to move toward procedures such as nerve block procedures.
Therefore, I suggested increasing the dose beyond the usual 50 units. This is because if you receive the usual dose and the effect again seems ambiguous, it becomes difficult to decide the treatment direction.
In this case, it would be good if the effect also appeared, but it can also be seen as a process of judging partial resistance versus complete resistance.
If I were in that position, I can say that I would have performed the same procedure on my own face. For square jaw Botox, 100 units is a dose that many clinics these days recommend as the first treatment for people with large muscles. Even when the muscle is large, I tend to recommend 50 units at a somewhat shorter interval.
For a more definite judgment, I performed the procedure for testing with a somewhat larger amount proportional to the muscle. If you visit after about 2 and a half to 3 months, I think we may be able to obtain more information.
As far as I know, testing for Botox antibodies is still not generally performed in Korea. Therefore, this kind of clinical judgment is mostly what is used.
I apologize once again for not being able to give you a precise answer, and I would like to say that visiting before 3 months have passed is the best way for us to give the most accurate feedback. After 3 months, strength and muscle volume begin to return, so judgment may become ambiguous. More 2024-09-19 10:54 Gangnam Laren Clinic I received jaw Botox. I had the first procedure, but the effect seemed minimal, so I revisited after 3 months. Since resistance could have developed, they gave me complimentary Botox in the glabella as a test, and I revisited again one month later. After checking the progress, they said the effect seemed half-and-half, and gave the opinion that it could be partial resistance, so I should try 100 units in the jaw, and I had the procedure. I felt a bit frustrated because they didn't give precise feedback about resistance, and the Botox effect on my jaw is minimal. It's disappointing because it feels like a waste of money..
