<6 months after rhinoplasty><6 months after rhinoplasty><7 years after rhinoplasty><7 years after rhinoplasty>First of all, I had the surgery done by an ENT specialist in Apgujeong, and there were no issues with the rhinoplasty. At the time, even though it was my first surgery, I think I paid somewhere in the mid-3 million won range, including rhinitis treatment. At first, the line was pretty and it seemed fine.
Honestly, I don’t think the rhinoplasty clinic itself was the problem; it seems more like an issue with my individual skin/tissue type.
I definitely think rhinoplasty is the most difficult surgery. If you look at a skull model, the nose area is just wide open, and that means the nose is really a part of the human face made only of cartilage, so it’s soft and flexible. If your nose isn’t naturally high to begin with, and you try to raise it too much, I guess the other tissues inevitably react and move along with it.
On top of that, maybe because my skin has always been thin and sensitive. I didn’t notice it at first, but as each day passed, maybe from around 4 years later, my nose started to feel slightly upturned. But at first, the feeling of it being upturned was kind of hard to tell, and other people said, “No, it doesn’t look that upturned. It’s just because your nose is small.” But..
After I had philtrum reduction surgery last December, my nose became completely upturned. My nose was originally small, with a weak nasal tip and thin skin, and then after the philtrum reduction, the nasal tip definitely turned upward. It was probably due to the formation of scar tissue from the philtrum surgery and the resulting downward-pulling tension + some slight effect on the nasal tissue...(?)
Ever since the philtrum reduction, from my family to friends to coworkers, everyone admits that my nose looks upturned. It’s been over 6 months since I had the philtrum reduction... and the upturned look is becoming more and more noticeable.
So I’m very upset... If anything, even if my bridge had been a bit lower, I think my original virgin nose was better.
But if I had to really break it down, the primary reason is that I had rhinoplasty... Philtrum reduction surgery should be done by people whose noses are firm, healthy, and have plenty of skin tissue...!! Also, the maximum length that can be shortened in one philtrum surgery is about 7 mm.. Even if you reduce it by 9–10 mm, over time it comes down by about 2 mm.. because the tissue softens again and you start using the lip muscles again. And since scarring from philtrum surgery varies so much from person to person, scar care is essential.... But scar care... is such a hassle that even when the clinic tells me to come in for free, I end up not going...
For the philtrum, unless it’s longer than 2 cm.. I recommend not doing it in most cases.
