<In just the few minutes I spent roughly treating it at home before going to the hospital, the sink filled up with bloodㅠㅠ>I’m on day 6 after surgery: hump osteotomy + silicone implant for the nasal bridge + bulbous nose/long nose correction (septal cartilage + donated costal cartilage + ear cartilage).
After the consultation and surgery, I hadn’t seen the director even once (I didn’t hear about the surgical result/process from the director either; I had to ask the consultant myself to hear about it;) but thanks to(?) this emergency, I finally got to see the director briefly today.
The nasal packing was removed on day 2, and on day 5, one side of my nose suddenly started bleeding steadily. I called the hospital, and they told me to contact them again if the bleeding didn’t stop after 20 minutes. Fortunately, it stopped. The problem was that at dawn the next day, my nose suddenly started bleeding heavily as if a faucet had been turned on.
Clotted blood was pouring out, so I called the hospital. At first, they only told me to calm down and keep my nose blocked, but the bleeding wasn’t stopping at all, so I took photos and videos and sent them again. Maybe then they realized how serious it was, because only then did they tell me to go to a nearby emergency room to stop the bleeding and come in when the hospital opened. It was dawn, but in the process of communicating with the hospital, a whole hour passed with nothing really being done. (There was an on-call emergency system, but I couldn’t get through for 30 minutes..)
I barely made it to a nearby ER, and after about 3 hours they managed to stop the bleeding temporarily. I was severely dizzy, so they also started an IV, but I had to get to the hospital by opening time, so I couldn’t even finish the IV and rushed to the hospital.
But when I actually arrived, unlike what the staff member who took the emergency call at dawn had said, they made me wait an hour and a half to see the director.
At first they just told me to wait, then after about an hour, the consultant came and said the director would probably come in a bit late today, and that he definitely wasn’t seeing other patients. Then after more time passed, they suddenly said he was doing another emergency surgery?
I guess I wasn’t considered an emergency, even though I had been bleeding heavily enough to fill a sink for three hours.
They asked if I would see another head director instead, so I said yes. He took a quick look and said something like, “It probably wasn’t that serious though~,” speaking as if it was nothing. After going through that chaos at dawn, it seemed like the director hadn’t been informed. Even if he wasn’t the surgeon who operated on me, if he was coming to see a patient who came in as an emergency, I thought he would at least have received a basic handoff. I was really getting angry at the lukewarm response..
I thought about showing the photos from all the chaos and filing a complaint, but I held it in and explained everything again. Then they said that as long as they put packing in my nose and the bleeding stops, there’s no problem. After that, my surgeon came briefly, put the hemostatic packing back in, said we should stop the bleeding for another 3-4 days, and left..
When I asked whether there are cases where someone bleeds this much, they said it’s a case that might happen once or twice a year at most, but then they also said it wasn’t a big deal. It feels contradictory, and I’m really worried..
I searched around this community and YouTube, and people say that with this level of bleeding, the blood vessel may need to be sutured.. Is the right answer really just to do what the hospital says and wait about 3 more days with packing to stop the bleeding?ㅠㅠ Since they said it’s not a common case, I’m so worried ㅠㅠ
