I’d want to tell people not to do it unless they really have to. I’m living without any particular discomfort, but I’m looking into lateral canthoplasty restoration. Somehow, while living with it, I’m not satisfied, and I always end up thinking my old eyes were better. My eyes had a narrow horizontal width, and the outer corners were upturned, so I think they looked a bit sharp. So I thought lateral canthoplasty would be perfect for making my eyes bigger and making my impression look softer. At the time, there was a type of lateral canthoplasty that fixed the outer corner of the eye, opened it a lot, and was said not to reattach. I think the surgery itself was done well? But unlike what I intended, my eyes do not look softer at all. Rather, my eyes got bigger, but because a lot of the whites show, my eye shape looks stronger. If you have canthoplasty, your eye shape changes too. And because the outer corners are opened, it’s completely obvious that I had canthoplasty. (different from epicanthoplasty) People like me whose eyes are not protruding and who have deep-set eyes really, really shouldn’t do it. It makes the eyes look even deeper, so sometimes people mistake me for Southeast Asian. There are many other downsides too. There are people who are satisfied with lateral canthoplasty, but when I look at their photos, it doesn’t look good to me. It looks artificial, not pretty, and just feels like only the eyes got bigger (just my personal feeling). I think it can be covered enough with makeup.
