I had sunken eyes, short horizontal eye length, and the distance from my eyebrows wasn’t wide either, so as soon as I turned 20, I had buried-suture double eyelid surgery + epicanthoplasty. Thinking about it now, it was in the provinces, and I had the boldness to just go to a hospital that seemed somewhat well-known at the time without doing any online research, consult, book, and even get surgery right away Epicanthoplasty wasn’t done as aggressively back then as it is these days, so it was opened so subtly that you couldn’t even tell I had done it, and I still had a complex about my eyes being small. I booked a consultation at ㄱㄹ, which was the most famous for canthoplasty at the time, and came up from the provinces. During surgery they told me to roll my eyeballs this way and that, and anyway that uncomfortable feeling? It wasn’t unbearably painful, but I think I kept praying for it to end quickly. The black stitches hanging there looked really unsightly, but thankfully it healed well without side effects. However, as time passed, I do feel like the widened space became a bit narrower compared with right after surgery. It doesn’t return 100% to before surgery, but it seems to go back to some extent. Still, if it had been opened too excessively, I think I would have worried about side effects. Eye canthoplasty has limits depending on your bone structure or eye anatomy. Anyway, it’s already been about 10 years since my lateral canthoplasty, and it’s interesting to see that the hospital where I had it done is still famous in that area. Most hospitals that were popular seem to change or disappear every few years.
