It’s been almost a year since I had surgery at Asan.
I’m now 4 months out from a revision surgery at another hospital.
After the surgery at Asan, I was so shocked that I wasn’t in my right mind for a while, so I couldn’t bring myself to write about it. I’m posting now in the hope that no one else becomes a victim like me.
After I had septoplasty at a university hospital, I developed a collapsed nasal bridge and a drooping nasal tip, so I underwent nasal tip cartilage resection and repositioning at a small plastic surgery clinic in Apgujeong. After that, I ended up with a complication where my nose became completely blocked, so I went to Asan Hospital. I first saw a different professor in plastic surgery, but another ENT professor involved in the consultation said Professor Jang was good and handed the surgery over to him. I was desperate to solve the functional problem, so despite the authoritative and unilateral attitude I felt during the consultation, I decided to proceed with surgery.
After that, instead of solving the functional problem,
my nose was pulled forward and lengthened to a grotesque degree, making breathing even harder. They crushed the harvested costal cartilage into particles and shoved those cartilage particles all over my nose, making it thick and blunt. I had clearly requested that my nose be made slimmer, and that was also recorded in the medical chart, but they carried out procedures recklessly without any agreement from me and ruined my nose to the point that even revision surgery cannot fully restore it. The surgery cost nearly 10 million won.
When I visited a few times afterward to check the progress, I told them I wanted early correction, but they acted as if it were absurd that the residents were being asked for something unreasonable, saying I had gotten a beautiful nose. When I raised the issue while foreign doctors who had come from afar to observe were also in the clinic room, they became flustered and only then said they would reoperate. Then, after an indefinite delay because of the doctors’ strike, only now, a year later, they’re calling to schedule surgery again.

As you can see from the surgery record, they inserted crushed cartilage into both sides of my nose without my consent through a procedure called nasal sidewall augmentation, which made my nose blunt and thick.
Also, despite my request not to touch the dorsal hump,
they ground down the hump cartilage on their own authority.
This May, I went to a plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam and had revision surgery.
My breathing and appearance have improved a lot compared to before, but because the cartilage particles they stuffed in have been absorbed, they could not remove everything, and the nose is still bumpy and blunt because of the scar tissue that piled up from removing cartilage particles adherent to the tissue.
Even these days, it seems like they’re going around overseas giving lectures and demonstrations, and I’m honestly curious what kind of result could possibly have earned them that authority. It seems they made several other people suffer too.
