Before <right before entering the operating room> After <two and a half months later> First of all, I was born with malocclusion, and I also had a deformity? where two molars were missing (they said it seemed like they just never came in originally). Was it in middle school? I went for an orthodontic consultation, and they said I was already too oldㅡㅡ and told me to just get surgery when I grew up. I think I heard about surgery for nearly 30 years.. But I’m the type who tries not to have surgery unless absolutely necessary, so I went around getting consultations to see if orthodontics could solve it, but they said even surgery might be questionable, and orthodontics was completely out of the question, so I ended up going all the way to Seoul.
I heard from many medical professionals that the director was really good. It wasn’t just simple word of mouth for me; my dentist and the nurses strongly recommended him as trustworthy, so I got a consultation first.
My first impression of the director was not great.... lol It was good that he was full of confidence, but I didn’t feel much warmth from him haha Still, I decided to go ahead with the surgery, thinking, “As long as his skills are good!” Surgery review, day 1 to discharge) The cool operating room, the severely aching anesthesia injection and gas made me lose consciousness haha Unexpectedly, the aching in my arm remains as an extremely painful memory. When I came to, I was in my hospital room... At first I could breathe well and felt okay...
But as the pain gradually came on.. I thought, ah, this must be the pain the director honestly told me about haha He said everyone regrets it on the first day because it hurts, and that it’s pain beyond imagination. And that was really true haha On the first day, it wasn’t just regret; it was so hard that I even resented my parents for giving birth to me this way.
But if you can endure exactly 24 hours, you start to feel, ah, it’s definitely getting easier.
I think the director’s surgical skill is absolutely the best. In Busan, where I live, even if you only do the lower jaw, they hospitalize you for a week, but he has the skill to discharge someone who had double jaw surgery plus two types of facial contouring after exactly 48 hours!!! After exactly two days, it becomes somewhat bearable.
Now at two months, I think progress really depends on the person. Maybe because I’m older, my recovery was slower, and the second month felt much harder than the first month. I had to take painkillers every day and keep applying warm/cold compresses whenever I had time. Because my swelling was going down very asymmetrically, I was worried and contacted the hospital several times, but there was no problem with the surgery and no problem with the bones, so it seemed to be individual variation in recovery. After struggling for a full month, the number of painkiller pills I take gradually decreased, and my face, which used to swell constantly, has stabilized a lot. Now even people I know say my face looks much more comfortable. But because of orthodontic treatment, the second month was harder for me than the first, so my eating actually became much poorer in the second month, and now that I’m doing postoperative orthodontics too, my teeth hurt, so I’m back to mostly eating a liquid diet.
Since I had this surgery in my 40s, I think my recovery is slower, but it seems like something time will resolve. That’s because I can feel myself getting better each day, and I absolutely do not regret having the surgery. I thought it would be good to share an honest review, so I wrote about the uncomfortable parts too. I hope it helps. Anyway, I praise myself for having surgery at 40^^
