Male, Age 33, Rhinoplasty Review

Hello,

[Time of Surgery] It has been about 5,000 days (around 13 and a half years) since I had rhinoplasty. I am male, and I had cosmetic surgery in my early 20s.

[Reason for Surgery] My nose was not originally extremely low, and it was not high either; it was average. (In other words, the surgery was not due to nasal shape issues such as a hump nose or bulbous nose.) I had a somewhat feminine-looking face, so I had the surgery because I wanted to look more masculine.

[Surgical Details] The surgery was done with silicone. I do not know exactly what type of implant it was. As far as I know, autologous cartilage was used at the nasal tip.

[Notes] (1) Looking back at that time (i) Consultation I think my approach was a bit different from people who have specific needs, especially women. I consulted along the lines of, “Doctor, I want to look a little more masculine. I don’t know exactly what style would suit my face. I think it would be okay as long as it does not look unnatural. Please recommend something while taking my current facial shape and other factors into account.” I proceeded as recommended. The reason I did not insist on adding my personal opinions was that I thought the consultant or the doctor would know better than I did.

I also did not negotiate the price and paid whatever they asked. I think I added, “I do not mind paying a little more. It is more important that it turns out well in one go.”

(ii) Result There were no side effects. The result was also good. As I had wanted, I looked more masculine than before, and it also turned out fairly natural.

(2) How I feel now However, about 13 and a half years later, I am now experiencing some minor side effects in my nose. (i) It seems that contracture has gradually occurred. It is not at a serious stage yet. However, people who have known me for a long time and are observant, such as my wife and sister-in-law, have consistently observed that these days my nostrils are much more visible compared with before. (ii) Also, sometimes when my condition is not good, I experience slight redness at the nasal tip. (It is not always like that.) (iii) When I am in a cold place or my condition is not good, such as after drinking heavily for several days in a row, my nose also sometimes feels slightly stinging or tight.

[Reason for Joining] There is no problem yet, but if the side effects become any worse, I am considering implant removal or revision surgery. I would like to gather information in advance when I have some time early in the year. I would like to seek help from this community regarding that.

I do not know much about cosmetic surgery and related matters, and due to work I do not have much personal time, so I may not be able to provide much help to everyone here. Still, if anyone is curious about my cosmetic surgery experience, I will answer sincerely. Also, if I end up receiving consultations related to revision rhinoplasty in the future, I will post the results carefully and faithfully according to what I felt.

Thank you for reading to the end. Happy New Year.
